Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Phonex PX-211D Wireless Web Jack SystemCustomer Review: Easy Jack 2 Wireless Phone Jack Summary: 3 Stars
Bought this Easy Jack and extention because our DISH company said we had to have it or they would charge us $5 a month extra. We got it and it never worked right - intermittent. I called the DISH company several times, called the Easy Jack people several times, and no one could figure out what the problem was. I sent it back to Easy Jack and they repaired it, got it back and same problems. In the meantime, DISH was charging me the extra $5 a month, which I had not noticed so for almost a year, I was paying it because they said it wasn't registering. They would not refund my money, $60.00, even though I had been trying to work it out. Finally, the Easy Jack customer service told me to take it off the plug it was on and put it on a different phone jack in the bedroom, and that was the first time it worked. Apparently, it cannot be hooked up to a plug that has a power strip plugged in. But when we put it in our bedroom, it kept turning on our 2 touch lamps, so then we had to go out and buy 2 new lamps for the side tables by our bed. It just was a very exasperating experience from start to finish, but it is FINALLY working, after ridiculous DISH charges, and 2 new lamps. I wouldn't recommend this product unless you have plugs that are dedicated strictly to them.
Customer Review: Totally satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this item to work with my TIVO unit via DirecTV. It was recommended by DirecTV as completely compatible, and it is. This is the only way to use your DVR when there is no telephone jack in the room where the TIVO unit is to be used, unless you want to run telephone wire and a install a jack (which I did not want to do)
Very easy to set-up, install and use, and it works perfectly and flawlessly as described. Your DVR must be hooked up to a phone line 24 hours a day / 7 days a week and it must make periodic phone calls to collect data and/or information. In fact, TIVO service will discontinue to operate correctly if a phone line is not connected after 30 days of interrupted connectivity. It will shut down completely and you will lose all ability to record, schedule, purchase, download, etc.....
The fact that DirecTV recommended this particular model, make and type convinced me to buy it. According to DirecTV, it must be described as a wireless jack for a modem.
Customer Review: A simple solution Summary: 4 Stars
I mainly searched, reviewed, and ultimately purchased the Wireless Jack System primarily to hook up my Direct TV HD DVR Cable Box. I didn't even know such device existed and was recommended by my cable company. I have had no problems so far since purchase in Jan 2010. This pretty much saved me the hassle and money of having a phone jack installed which cost >$100 in my area! Installation was easy and took less than 5min. I just hope this product will last.
Pros:
- Perfect for Satellite Hook-ups
- Convenient
- No Installation Cost for phone jack
- Affordable
- Simple solution for everyday use of a phone line
- Supports Caller ID
- Expandable
Minor Cons:
- Very big and bulky (may take up other plugs)
- Must be plugged in DIRECTLY into electrical outlet on wall(Can NOT use extension, power strips, or adapter cords)
- Interference(static on Voice)
- Extra/longer phone cords may be needed/purchased.
Customer Review: Can't recommend this product Summary: 1 Stars
The number of positive reviews for this product surprises me.
First, the pictures of the wireless jack: They don't show you that the underside is where you plug it into your wall socket. The problem is that the plug is so huge that it may cover the entire wall socket. If you have two sockets, and depending on how those sockets are arranged, you may lose access to the second one.
So, "I'll connect it to a surge protector or socket multiplier of some kind," you say. The manual tells you not to do that. I don't know why, but a surge protector probably interferes with the AC signal this device sends on your house wiring. Just a guess.
Then, the manual doesn't tell you if Caller ID signals are sent from the phone company jack to the jack you extended with this device. You can find out empirically...but I never got that far. My unit failed after about an hour. I returned it and got a refund...but it was a bad omen. I won't get another one.
Customer Review: Beware of surge protectors Summary: 1 Stars
In common with other reviewers, I received the 'Data' version of this product, but as I was planning to use it for a fax, that should probably not have been an issue.
Easy to install, green lights on both units immediately.
The fax test routine (HP 5610 OfficeJet) was initially successful, albeit with a lot of noise on the line. However, subsequently the noise on the line prevented the fax from starting. A total failure. Reading the various indications from the manufacturer, this is almost certainly caused by surge protectors (there are two in reasonably close proximity - same room, different outlets).
Alas I no longer have the packaging, so cannot return Easy Jack.
Good news is that 'MagicJack' seems to work without problems, although not officially supported for fax use. More expensive in the long run, but gives a separate fax number also.magicJack - No More Phone Bills - Free Local & Long Distance Calls!
