Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Phonex PX-211D Wireless Web Jack SystemCustomer Review: Installed, but not quite so easy for me Summary: 4 Stars
It's installed, but it wasn't quite so easy.
Despite the great ease in installing this product (reported by others) my install did not go as smoothly. I needed to hook up a line to my DirecTV TiVo Unit, and it took me an hour due to the fact that TiVo could not detect the Dial Tone (although I could easily hear it by attaching a regular phone). But, after 2 failures, TiVo did provide an option to ignore the search for Dial Tone, and that finally did the trick. I hope that doesn't interfere with other "phone" operations.
As for the various colored Lights, I had difficulty determining what color I had (except Red was clear). But, when they're supposed to be flashing, or on or off is a mystery -- not that it matters now.
Nevertheless, by the end of the hour TiVo had actually connected successfully, and went all the way through its various up-and-down loads again to finally finish the process and disconnect.
One of the biggest problems was trying to find a place to put the Base Unit that would not be anywhere close to a Surge Suppressor or Power Strip (well documented problems by others).
No such luck with the Extension Unit that connects with the TiVo, so we will see if that unit gets degraded and fails due to interference. But the units worked, and have successfully communicated again automatically once time since the install on this day 2.
I also bought an extra extension Unit , but due to all of the limitations it is not clear that it will be usable for a hookup to a Fax machine that should be located between 2 separate Surge Suppressors.
In fairness, I have an RCA Wireless Jack that would not work with my DSL Router, but did work with TiVo. But I could not find another extension unit for it. At least Phonex has them, and so far (one anyway) will work.
I may replace the RCA Unit with the Phonex Extension to save 1 live Jack. The lack of (TiVo) detectable Dial Tone may have something to do with the REN number of (devices attached to) the Phone Line -- which Phonex says should not exceed 5. That's an easy number to exceed with all of today's Home "Communications". The RTX units mentioned by another reviewer could possibly conflict with other 2.4 Ghz units, so here's hoping for successful Phonex.
I will update this, if needed, for significant problems or successes I get with these units, but it would be a good idea to take a look at several of the excellent Reviews for this product before buying.
Customer Review: THE PHONE JACK THAT DOSE NOT WORK WITH A PHONE. Summary: 1 Stars
I BOUGHT THIS FROM NETDEAL ON AMAZON.COM. FOR $40.00. THE PRODUCT IS MADE BY PHONEX. THE PRODUCT DISCRIPTION IS AWFUL. I BOUGHT A WIRELESS PHONE JACK THAT DOSE NOT WORK WITH A PHONE. I HAD TO OPEN THE BOX AND READ THE INSTALATION INSTRUCTIONS TO FIND THAT OUT. IT ONLY WORKS WITH COMPUTERS AND SATILITE DISHES AND FAX MACHINES ETC. IT WON'T WORK WITH PHONES OR VOICE. ALL I WANT IT TO WORK ON IS A TELEPHONE. NET DEAL ADVERTISES MODEL NO PX-211. THEY SHIP ME A PX 211D WHICH ONLY WORKS WITH DATA - NOT VOICE. AFTER READING THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOX I FIND OUT THAT WHAT I NEED IS PX-211V WHICH WORKS WITH A PHONE [ VOICE]. NO ONE AT AMAZON.COM OR NETDEAL OR PHONEX CAN TELL ME HOW TO BUY THE RIGHT ONE. I AM IN THE MIDDEL OF THE 4 WEEK PROCESS OF RETURNING THE WRONG ONE FOR CREDIT. SO FAR I HAVE SPENT 5 HOURS TRYING TO BUY A WIRELESS PHONE JACK THAT WILL WORK WITH A PHONE AND STILL HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR MY TIME. NONE OF THE ONES ON AMAZON.COM SAY THEY WILL WORK WITH A PHONE OR VOICE SO I HAVE TO ASSUME THAT THEY ALL WILL NOT. A WIRELESS PHONE PHONE JACK THAT IS DESIGNED TO NOT WORK WITH A PHONE - COME ON - GIVE ME A BRAKE. THERE IS NO USEFULL INFORMATION ON PHONEX WEB SITE EITHER AND THERE IS NO CONTACT INFORMATION. IT IS INPOSSIBLE TO TALK TO A PERSON AT PHONEX OR NETDEAL. I FINALLY TALKED TO SOMEONE AT AMAZON BUT THEY HAD ZERO PRODUCT INFORMATION. ALL THE COULD OFFER WAS SEND IT BACK AND WE WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY. IT IMPOSSABLE TO TALK TO ANYONE AT AMAZON.COM OR NETDEAL OR PHONEX THAT HAS ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ANY PRODUCT THAT THEY SELL. IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE DISCRIPTION FORGET IT - THERE ARE NO ANSWERS TO BE HAD.
EARL OLSEN.
Customer Review: BUYER BEWARE - DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COMPANY! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this model with the intention of using one extension as a fax line and another extension for a phone in my wifes office. One thing you will notice is the product is marketed to serve both uses. But once you get it you'll find you have the "Data Only" model. How do you know? Because it will say it on the side of the unit when you open it up. Then you'll scan the packaging. Nope no hints there, infact a nice little picture of a phone plugged into it suggesting this unit supports voice. If you read enough reviews you'll find that the model number is the only clue. You need a "V" at the end to get the voice version. Otherwise you'll be getting hissing on your voice line. I am glad I only purchased the one extension. Even though I know the big secret on how to pick the right one now the misleading packaging has earned a boycott from this consumer. If a company is too cheap to make unique packaging for their units maybe they shouldn't be selling two different units. Especially since the Voice one supposedly supports Data and Voice. I am also very disappointed with Amazon for not updating their description after so many complaints. I suppose they don't care since we (the consumer) get to pay for the return shipping if we weren't lucky enough to only need a data version. Anyways there are plenty of other brands to choose from I recommend picking one with a better business strategy then lying and misleading their customers. I know I will be replacing this when I set up my wifes office.
Customer Review: PX-211 does not exist, it's either PX-211D or PX-211V, They sent PX-211D which is WRONG Summary: 1 Stars
The unit was described as the PX-211. I should have known there would be issues by the fact that the title of this product has a typo (Wirless instead of Wireless).
When it arrived, there was no indication on the box of what was inside. I found that the base and extension both said "DATA ONLY" even though the manual mentioned that there is a "VOICE/DATA" version. Nowhere in the description of this product did it tell you to be sure to order the proper version - that's probably because I bet Amazon doesn't sell the VOICE/DATA version, no wonder it's so cheap. The version they sent was the PX-211D and in fact there is no such thing as the PX-211 - it's either PX-211D or what I wanted, and expected, PX-211V.
I thought I'd give it a try anyway, and sure enough, the voice quality was too low to use.
Now I see from other reviews that others have had the same issue. You would think that after lots of returns and complaints, Amazon would update the description to stop others from making the same mistake. I have requested a replacement item, telling them the issue. If they send another PX-211D I am going to ask for a refund and I'll wire it myself using good old fashioned, reliable cable, since the time wasted in trying this out and returning it twice will be almost as long as it would have taken to to the cabling required in my home.
Customer Review: Works great with Dish Network HDTV ViP722 DVR receiver Summary: 5 Stars
This product works great; I now understand why it's recommended by Dish Network and DIRECTV. I recently upgraded my system and have the DishHD ViP722 DVR receiver. When I received the PX-211 in the mail yesterday, I had it installed/working within 5 minutes. Not only do I save $5 a month from Dish Network by having a phone connection, my caller-id information is displayed on my TV for all incoming calls. I had tried 2 different models of RCA wireless phone jacks and had to return them because they didn't work right with my satellite receivers (the model RC930 locked up my phone line after the first ring on my old Dish receiver). I'm not knocking RCA products; both models worked OK for just phone use. This phone line is also my AT&T DSL line; I use the 2Wire DSL filter on both the incoming phone line to the PX-211 base unit and the outgoing phone line from the extension unit. I agree with some of the other comments about the instructions being brief; actually, I consider this a plus because they're easy to follow. Come on, this isn't rocket science; you just plug them in to a wall socket and hook up the phone lines; nothing to it! I wish that I had heard about the PX-211 earlier; it would have saved me a lot of frustration in trying out other units on my satellite system.
