Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of NAVGEAR Universal Dash MountCustomer Review: I use it every day. Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this product for about one month. I am using it to hold a Apple iPhone Deluxe Mounting System from pocketsolutions.com, and use it mainly to hold my iPhone 3G on my Toyota Sequoia SUV. I am very satisfied with this product.
I am very familiar with many mounting systems. I have tried the mounting system that attaches to the A/C vents, but these block the vents and do not feel as sturdy. The suction cups that mount on the windshield are illegal in California and another state (I forget which one). These suction cups are not meant for daily stalling and uninstalling, as each cycle tends to wear the silicon mechanism. This means that they will more than likely be left almost permanently on windshields, which serves as an advertisement for opportunistic punks to break a window in the hopes of finding whatever piece of electronic they may think you have in the car.
The neat thing about these friction mounts is that they can be put away out of sight of thieves. They also afford the opportunity for easy adjustments and positioning while driving.
Why this particular dash mount as opposed to other friction dash mounts available. The problem with most other dash mounts is that they are circular and do not conform or negotiate the non-flat or angled dashboard surfaces found in many cars, including mine. This particular dash mount is similar to the top of the line Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Series GPS's, which I also own for my Garmin GPS, in its versatility and stability.
Customer Review: Solid, attractive, flexible and a great fit for Navigon 2100 Max Summary: 5 Stars
After driving with the GPS either on my lap or tilting on the console, I ordered the Navgear ME201133 Universal Dash Mount. So the price has come down a few cents a day, but I don't care because this is a life saver!!! The rubberized base is thinner than I'd expected, the triad allows for flexibility in the placement and the weight is substantial. The hard round base is thicker than I'd expected, also solid on the underside for added stability. In my Honda Accord, I first placed it dead center on the dash where the original GPS had been mounted on the windshield, but I quickly realized that it could be placed perfectly along the left edge of the windshield on the dash and absolutely nothing is obstructed. It is so much easier as I drive for my eyes to drift a little to the the left to see the screen now and the text to speech is perfectly audible. Driving in the rain last night, I had to make a very sudden stop which caused every item on the front seat to go flying, but this dash mount, GPS attached, stayed put, not budging an inch. It is easy to remove for secure storage when not in use and is not so large or heavy that it couldn't accompany the traveler in a plane, boat, helicopter, submarine or train as well.
I strongly recommend this mount and feel that it will save me from unnecessary stress. A natural byproduct is that others on the road will be safer, too, when I'm behind the wheel.
Customer Review: Nice Dash Mount for Garmin Nuvi 755T Summary: 4 Stars
I've used this bean-bag dash mount for a couple hundred miles in my '95 Saturn SL2. Even with the harder, more "slippery" plastic dash, this mount doesn't slide around. The bottom of the mount is coated in a tacky rubber material. The round suction cup mounting disk fits the default RAM suction cup and Garmin suction cup with room to spare. It will also fit my larger, older RAM suction cup. Suction power is good: I regularly lift this 3.2 pound mount by holding onto the GPS cradle.
The three "wings" of the mount are flexible and move independently of the main body of the mount. The wings help it to contour better to my dash. The wings do stick up a little bit above the plane of the suction cup mounting disk. That interfered a little bit with the bottom edge of my GPS until I rotated the GPS so that the bottom edge was then along one of the gaps.
No regrets on this purchase. I'll probably use this mount more than attaching the GPS to the windshield. It's easier to take off the dash and conceal when not in use and it also permits my wife or me to hold the GPS closer (in the passenger's seat, of course) rather than reaching up to the windshield to make navigation changes.
Customer Review: Good idea, end-product needs work Summary: 2 Stars
Construction: well put together, but too tightly stitched. The amount of sand (or whatever weight is used) is far too much for the three pouches that are designed to conform to the surface of the dash. Each of the three "pouches" are so tightly sewn that the edges of the sticky bottom curl up away from my dash. The resulting footprint is not a draping bean bag but three solid flaps around a circular base.
Usability: Got this for my 2004 BMW 3-series. Due to the above comments, this product is unusable in my car. During idle, the car's vibration (this is not a lot of vibration) is enough that the dash mount just slides down off the dash after stopping at a few stop lights.
Price: it's one of the cheapest out there. I guess the old saying: "you get what you pay for" rings true again.
Bottom line: construction seems bulletproof, price is cheap, but the product doesn't work for my car.
Customer Review: Good..but not so good Summary: 3 Stars
Contradicting title, I know, but let me explain. My Tomtom 720 has a small neck and the original mat that I had purchased for my Garmin was useless. I checked out the reviews and bought this navgear since it said its good for shorter neck gps systems including 720. When I opened the box, I was really excited, since it seemed to be quite heavy and it looked like it'll just be the perfect fit for my tomtom. But once I placed it on Murano's dashboard, it didnt seem to have ANY traction at all.. and started skidding all over the place! I then had to place a rubber mat underneath it to really stop it from skidding. Another annoyance is that even though it looks like there's enough room to tilt the gps screen up/down, it really allows only a teeny bit of wiggle room.
It might be a good navmat.. but definitely not for Murano.. and Im not sure for 720 either.
