Customer Review: Worth the money

For several days,I researched iPod Docking Stations/Alarm Clocks. I narrowed it down between the iLuv iMM153BLK Dual Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker and a Memorex brand. Both were roughly in the same price range $30-$35. The criteria/features that I was looking for were 1.)iPod Touch Docking/Charging Station compatible with the 4th Generation iPod Touch; 2.) Dual alarm clock allowing you to wake to either radio, iPod or beeping; 3.) Speakers to play iPod or radio; 4.) Asthetics. I wanted it to look nice on my night stand; 5.) Ease of Use.
Here is what I found when I opened the box:
1.) The web page provided by Amazon stated that the iLuv was compatible with iPod Touch 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations (I looked for this specifically because my son had purchased a 2nd Generation iPod Touch and it was not compatible with an iHome that he already had). When I received the iLuv, the box stated that it was only compatible with the 1st and 2nd generations. I contacted Electronics Expo before taking it out of the box to find out if the listing was incorrect and to find out it if would harm my iPod Touch. It took a little while, but they did contact me back and said that it would not harm the 4th generation iTouch. They also said that Amazon does not allow the seller to adjust anything on the product listing. All in all, the 4th Generation iPod Touch DOES work on this iLuv. The connector is very snug, but it works beautifully and it charges my iPod very well.
2.) This docking station has 2 alarm clock settings. You can set them for separate times and you can turn them both on or one or the other. The alarm clock feature works very well and will wake you to either your iPod, FM clock radio and beeps that start off quietly as to not jolt you out of bed and then increases in loudness. This is a very nice feature. Another nice, and somewhat unusual, feature is the shake awake feature. The instructions tell you to put the shaker disk under your pillow. I would not recommend under your pillow unless you sleep like a grizzly bear. I put mine between the mattress and the box springs and it wakes you up. You can turn this feature on or off for either alarm setting or not even connect it if you don't like it.
3.) The speakers surprisingly sound very good for an alarm clock. I wouldn't use it if I was throwing a party but it is very clear and has a good range in volume. The radio is digital, easy to tune, clear and has 10 presets that are not advertised on the website.
4.) The unit is a nice size, has a nice clean look to it and seems sturdy and nicely built. The unit also comes in other colors as well. The display, however, is bright buy can be adjusted. The lowest setting is more than sufficient. If you like your room to be completely dark than you would want to turn the display off at night.
5.) The docking station has quick start instructions and I found it easy to set up. The instructions, however, are very basic and do not cover things like tuning the radio and setting the preset channels. I had to go on the iLuv website and download the more detailed instructions to be familiar with all of the features. This is no big deal but kind of a pain.
Overall, I give the iLuv iPod Docking station/Alarm Clock 4 out of 5 stars for the reasons stated above. I would recommend this item to a friend, and I would recommend Electronics Expo.
