We have 3 video iPods in our family and 3 different external batteries. One of the other batteries (a Volta) attaches to the back of the bare iPod, so you risk scratches when you use it. Another battery attaches via the sync cable so you can use it while the iPod is in the case, but it can be awkward to hold if you're watching videos.
The iLuv i603 is nice because the case holds the battery tightly against the iPod and protects against scratches at the same time. It turns your thin iPod into a bit of a thick brick, but at least it's a nice looking brick. I would give it 5 stars if it had an on/off switch (like the Volta). You won't want to leave your iPod connected when not in use, because the Charging/Charged icon will be displayed on the screen whenever the battery is connected and the iPod is turned off. This means that if you're travelling, you'll have to pack the iLuv and swap between the external battery and a regular case.
