Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of iHome iH9 Alarm Clock Speaker System with Dock for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Not made for iPod Touch Summary: 3 Stars
I got an iHome for my birthday after I bought an iPod Touch. The first day it sounded great. But on the second day, while listening to the iPod, I started hearing some static noise as if I was listening to the radio. We were able to exchange it for a new one that same day, but that one also gave me static noise.
Long story short, I searched online, and some people were having that same problem with the iPod Touch and the iHome. So I went and exchanged it a second time, and this time, I went with a silver one, and it's worked great since then.
Turns out, the silver one is a different model made for the iPhone, which I didn't know. The silver iHome is iP9. So if you want one for your iPod Touch. Go with iP9 instead of iH9.
Also, use the dock that came with the iPod Touch. The iPod fits better than the one that came with the iHome.
Customer Review: Excellent alarm clock radio Summary: 5 Stars
I like to have very good music and news in my bedroom. I used to have a Bose alarm clock which worked well for almost five years. It was replaced by a Polk i-Sonic, but it was a total deception. Two devices broken in a six months period and a very poor design, for more than [...] bucks!. After this bad experience, I decided to go to a more "modest" model and chose the iHome H9. But, I have to say that I am gratefully surprised with the quality and rich sound of this alarm clock radio. It has all the functionality and options you can desire in this kind of systems. Very easy to operate, particularly in the darkness. Enough number of memory presets. Perfectly coupled with my iPod Touch. Of course, it has not the sonic ambience of Bose, but it has a decent sound proper to enjoy music in your bedroom. The H9 is not in any case a "modest" model. It is really a great finding!
Customer Review: Attempts to jump on iPod Bandwagon with weak product Summary: 1 Stars
It has good sound -- which is about the only really good thing I can say about it.
The remote only provides a subset of the iPod functions, making it almost useless for any but the most rudamentary functions.
FM performance is dismal at best. The radio is easily overloaded by strong stations with the result that weak (and even moderately strong)stations) tend to be mixed with adjacent stations.
The set top controls look cool and try to duplicate those of the iPod, but are difficult to use in practice.
The manual is brief, poorly written, and generally inadequate.
This is indicative of a product that has been rushed to market with the lowest possible investment of time and money by the manufacturer in order to jump on the bandwagon provided by successful products like iPod.
Customer Review: Very Good, But Not Perfect Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this because I have an iPod touch, and they don't do alarms by themselves like the older iPods do. The iHome IH9 has two alarms on it, which you can set to play the iPod from either a playlist (not sure how that works; haven't tried it yet) or just from whatever happens to being playing.
The speakers are really good for the price, and the remote is nice to have. It's a little touchy in terms of where you have to be pointing it at the clock, but it can control everything on the iHome.
The only major problem I have with it is that the volume should really go lower. I feel that its lowest setting is too loud for early mornings and thin walls.
I can't say anything about the FM or AM radios, because I haven't used them yet.
Overall, good quality and I'm quite happy with the purchase.
Customer Review: Best alarm clock I've ever had - and I hate alarm clocks! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm impressed with the iHome. I had heard it before when my former roomie had one and decided I wanted one for Christmas. It has lived up to my expectation and exceeded it. The unit and remote are of good quality materials, the sound quality is impressive for such a small and affordable item, and the alarm features are neat. I like the option to have a M-F alarm and a weekend alarm setting. The adjustable brightness for the display is great too, and easy to adjust. I really like how the beeping alarm function starts out slow and progresses, so you don't have to be assaulted first thing unless you need it! Which often I do. ;) I have it across the room, as I always do with alarm clocks, so I have to be careful to keep the remote in a drawer by my bed so it's still difficult to hit sleep (which you can do from the remote!). Great value!
