Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of iHome iH8 Clock Radio for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Buy it now!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
i bought this for $89.00 less than a year ago from amazon and it was worth every penny. you get three alarm options, ipod, radio, or buzzer. am and fm reception are uniformly good, better than my $300 stereo. the alarm is ridiculously easy to set, and easy to change for a later time on the weekends. it has a switch to make the recent daylight time change a snap. the backlight is easily adjustable. the higher settings are way too bright, but like i said, you can tone it down to a perfect level. the sound is excellent out of such small speakers. although its made for the bedstand, it can be clearly heard and enjoyed throughout my one bedroom apartment. the feature i like the most is the auto shutoff. it is so great to drift off to a great podcast or a soothing music playlist, and then wake up to it too! then when i'm off to work, i grab my fully charged ipod from the ihome dock, and i'm good to go. i would buy another one of these in a heartbeat. highly, highly recommended.
Customer Review: Awesome Buy! Summary: 4 Stars
I really like the iH8 ihome!
PROS: it's small and compact and well fit good on a dresser or a desk. It has good sound for how small it is. The radio works really good. I live in the country and I could never get any radio stations I like, but the ihome lets me listen to all the stations I love. The buttons are easy to use and are straight forward. You can set the backlight of the screen to be how ever bright or dim you want it. I also like the fact that if I set my alarm to go off with my ipod classic and it's not in, a buzzer will go off instead. All the buttons light up too and they won't keep you up at night either. This unit is really easy to use!
CONS: The remote control sucks! You have to point it right in front of the unit and you can't be more then 8 feet away from it. The way the ipod is sent up to sit on the top can mean that if you hit it with something the port could get damage or the ipod could fall off and break.
Customer Review: I loved it... for almost a year! Summary: 2 Stars
In the beginning this was a great little machine. It probably will not rate the sound system of a Bose but for the price the sound was pretty good. Now it is almost a year later and I can't just put the iPod on and go. I have to keep moving the iPod to get in just the right position for it to play. I have to put cards behind the iPod to keep it in it's spot. And then if you accidentally bump into the cabinet where iHome is stored, you have to start all over again. It is very frustrating.
It really is too bad. Once I get the iPod positioned right, it sounds pretty good. I tried the route where you play it like another type of MP3 player. You use the cord in the headphone part and plug it into the iHome and use AUX. Using this the sound is TERRIBLE at the very least. It is for this reason that until I can get another type of speaker system I am stuck with this one. But my next purchase will NOT be an iHome product.
Customer Review: Really Pleased & Works With Nano 4g Summary: 5 Stars
I've only just gotten this dock and have only tried it out a few times so far but I'm immensely pleased. Here are some things you should know:
* It plays and charges the ipod nano 4g *
The radio works really well
Sound quality is decent, especially for the price
Very easy to use and set up
Handy snooze button
Front light dims to nearly nothing for you light sensitive people and can be turned off all together
Remote is kind of bad quality if that's important to you (but does work OK)
2 alarms
Can preset radio stations
Hope this helped you! I will add more as I think of it.
Edit: The remote ended up breaking within a month, and as soon as I moved the dock to the other side of my room I could not get a radio signal for the life of me, also thought the front light can be adjusted the top lights glow at a steady and bright orange which can be rather annoying.
Customer Review: Terrible sound quality, really difficult to use Summary: 1 Stars
I used this model during a two-night stay at a Marriott hotel in Boston. I found the sound quality of the iH8 really appalling, and the volume does not go up very high. The sound quality makes your 256kps MP3 files sound little better than the stuff you get on an average FM radio, and the volume is not loud enough even for a typical double at the Marriott.
What makes the model really suck is it's very difficult to figure out. For example, I looked and looked but could not figure out how to set the time (it was off by 10 minutes). The alarm setting is also very confusing. Also, the display does not show you much information, and it cannot be dimmed at night when you go to bed.
I had heard good things about iHome products before but was totally disappointed by my experience. I had been thinking of getting one at Toys r us for fifty bucks but will now look elsewhere for a better-quality iPod clock radio.
