Customer Review: Cheap laser printer works fine for me
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this from another online vendor for sixty bucks, and consider it a great deal. You can't beat a laser printer for that price. It's fast, turns out decent quality pages, and works with most Windows versions. I bought it partly for the price and partly because it has drivers for Windows Server 2003, which is what my print server is running. I don't know where people are getting these "no drivers" complaints - it has drivers for any version of Windows from 2000 to Vista, and most recent versions of Mac OS X.

No, it can't compete with HP's workgroup lasers, but for the price, it's great. The only caveat I'd offer is the price of toner: it comes with a "starter" cartridge that's only half the regular size, and replacements cost as much as the printer itself. Looks like the cartridges last a while, though - I've printed a fair amount with it and haven't even used up the starter cartridge.

Customer Review: HP LaserJet P1006
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently started a class that involved a download of files to print out at home. One file alone contained 65 pages. I knew printing these documents would be way too expensive (and way too slow) on my Epson Inkjet printer. The HP P1006 is fast, 17 pages per minute. Text is crisp and even photos, though in grayscale, look good. When you print you have the option of 600dpi or 1200dpi. Small foot print, quick warmup time. Print cartridges from HP are $58.00 and rated for 1500 pages, about 3.9 cents a page. For my needs, a winner, especially for the price. I paid under $85.00 delivered. HP LaserJet P1006 Printer

After reading other reviews saying it doesn't work with Mac, Let me state; I'm using this with an iMac24 (intel) Installed in minutes and works (Tony the Tiger voice) GREAT!

Customer Review: Wears out over time
Summary: 1 Stars

Over time, I found that this printer would place a small black ink smear at the top of every page after it had been printing about 10 or 20 pages in a row. I thought it needed to be cleaned, so I tried to read HP's online cleaning guide. This guide suggested removing the "pickup roller," but the instructions did not accurately describe how to do this. In fact, the instructions incorrectly mentioned "tabs" that surrounded the pickup roller, though these tabs do not exist. I called customer support and, as would be expected, was speaking to an outsourced employee who was hard to understand. After being on hold for 15 minutes as they were "researching the problem," I hung up. It's good if you only print 4 or 5 pages at a time, but not for printing 30-40 pages at once. I should note that this problem developed over time, within 3-4 months of use.

Customer Review: Good Printer
Summary: 4 Stars

This printer replaced a Brother HL2040. The toner gives far fewer prints, however there's no drum unit to replace. The brother would deliver 2,000 prints on a $50 toner while the HP delivers 1,500 prints on a $55 toner. Take the cost of a drum and 5 cartridges every 10,000 prints on the Brother and the price is about the same. HP costs about 3.6 cents per page to operate and the Brother costs 3.5 cents based on my experience. The HP jams less and is much more crisp and clear. Go with the HP every time.

For those who complain about 1,500 pages being a small load or about a $100 printer running slower than a $1,000 printer, I suggest working with more printers on the low end before making your comparisons. This is a good unit. I will be buying more for the office. Each workstation here prints about 10,000 pages per year.

Customer Review: Lost of bang for the buck
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this printer to replace a similar one that I damaged. It was over 50% less than STaples (where I got the last one on sale) and was "new in Box" as advertised. For some one that just needs a standard black ink printer this is a real good deal. It is small, relatively fast and works well with Windows 7 and Vista. One word of caution. Follow the setup directions to the letter and never, and I mean never, plug the USB Cable in while the printer is powered up.

When HP says it may damage the printer they are correct. It caused the plug and play software/hardware to fail on my original one. They warned me but I forgot one day and paid the price. As far as the print quality goes, and the day to day operation this is one good printer. HP has been producing Laser Printers for years nd they didn't fail with this one.
