Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of HP LaserJet P1006 Printer

Customer Review: Nothing but trouble...
Summary: 1 Stars

After a bad experience with a two Samsung printers, we decided to pay extra for HP. I purchased two P1006 printers.
Issues:
1) Toner capacity is not what we expect compared to Brother, Samsung or other HP printers. This effectively doubles the cost per page.
2) The cartridges for this model seem more prone to producing dirty or uneven printout than others - whether this is a cartridge or printer issue is moot - you just have more issues.
3) It refuses to work with some computers. Weird, but true. We have two identical desktop computers, the hard drives are even "ghosted" from the same source. It works perfectly with one, but only responds to the other sporadically. After hours with HP tech support, I got it to work for a couple of hours, the HP guys where mystified as to why it worked at all.
4) HP Tech support was less than useless. I knew more about their product than they did.

I've spent way too many hours just trying to get a printer to work, especially after paying a premium price.

Customer Review: Great, but not as great as previous model
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this printer for about a month and it works very well. It's probably the best little compact laser printer out there (my husband researched this to death). I had the previous model 1020 for about two years and never had any problems. Upsides: it looks nice and round, is compact so it fits in small spaces, never any problems printing with it. It's also light. Quality of printing is very good. Basically great for students or as a home computer. Downsides: cartridges are expensive, but which ones aren't. The pages can curl a bit, but not too much to be a problem. The reason I think it's not as good as the previous model (1020?) is the following: the color (black/silver) is ugly and less cheerful than the last model (hello, engineer designers, how about some aesthetics or color???), and the whole feel of the plastic is more cheap. It just feels less sturdy and well made. And is also louder, which may be the result of this. Alas, the 1020 is no longer on market, so this is the next best option.

Customer Review: Great printer for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

This little printer serves my purposes perfectly. I use the HP1012 on my main computer, but this little one was purchased for the very occassional printing I need to do off my laptop. I found some very weird things when I opened the box. First...there are no written instructions at all, either for installation or operation of the printer. It just includes a sheet with those indeciperable line drawings. Fortunately, I know how to install a printer, so it wasn't a problem for me. But if you've never connected a printer before, you'd best have someone on hand who knows how to do this. The other really strange thing is that the box did not contain the cable to connect the printer to a computer. Again, not a problem for me because I have extras around. I wonder if this is the way the printer was supposed to come, or if I just got an incomplete one. All that said, I'm still very pleased with my purchase. The printer is inexpensive, fast, quiet and makes nice clear copies. And that's all I needed.

Customer Review: Best laserjet printer for home
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a printer I could use at home. Something that had awesome quality printing (I always envied the office laser jets), worked flawlessly and was maintenance free. My use case was simple: I only wanted to print black and documents- the occasional word doc or driving directions., and it has to be fast. No more waiting for my old ink jet while it tried to print a single page. My earlier ink jet printer would refuse to print when it was low on one the inks even if I wanted to print only black and white.

This printer is perfect. Works both on Windows and Mac. Is so small that can tuck it away in a corner. The print quality is awesome! And this printer is fast. Did I mentioned it is a laser jet? I primarily use a Mac. When Snow Leopard came out, this printer had issues. A couple of updates later all is well. If you want a laser jet for home use and don't care about printing color pictures of your kids and don't to wait around while it tried to print, this is the printer you want.

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY. AN AWFUL PRINTER
Summary: 1 Stars

A total piece of garbage. The printer was manufactured WITHOUT A DRIVER, making it virtually useless for printing documents. When I called HP's service line, the bored individual on the phone could not have cared less about the problem. He said that HP was aware of the absence of drivers on all of these P1006 models but, at the moment, HP had more important matters to address. You can print out a webpage on this thing without a hitch. But if you want to print a document, you have to save it as a PDF and then print, leading to pointless duplications of every single document you produce. Moreover, the speed at which the printer spits out paper is in excess of the size of the paper tray. If you print a document with multiple pages, you have to stand by the printer and literally catch the pages as they come flying out of the printer as the paper tray is incapable of holding them. And to cap it all off, there are no instructions, either in a brochure with the printer or in the installation disc.
