Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of HP LaserJet P1006 PrinterCustomer Review: P1006 envelope solution Summary: 3 Stars
This printer is cheap in both price and quality, but it works OK for the most part. We were having problems printing envelopes from MS Word (Tools-Letters and Mailings-Envelopes and Labels) We kept getting an error message telling us to load the envelope in the manual feed tray and then hit the OK or GO button. The envelope was loaded, but there wasn't an OK or GO button. When you hit the button on the top of the machine, the red error light stops blinking, but it also cancels the print job. The only other button is the power button and that just shuts the machine off.
There is another review about setting the printer up to print envelops before sending the print job, but that didn't work either. Here is what to do.
Since there is no OK or GO button to press, after the job is sent and you get the error message about loading an envelope in the manual feed tray, just open and close the top of the printer. This resets the machine and it accepts the envelope job and the envelope will print.
It took us a while to figure this out - that opening the lid and closing it is this machine's "GO" button. Hope this helps somebody else.
Customer Review: Pleased With Results Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this printer for home use after losing my HP Deskjet 6980 to a severe paper jam. I no longer needed color prints, so I opted for a basic laser printer for improved speed and quality. I am very pleased with the small size of this printer (it fits on my night stand) and it prints so fast! ...once it warms up. It does take a minute to warm up, during which time my Macbook runs really slow. The print quality is great. I had read some reviews that the P1006 had issues printing from Mac versions of Microsoft Office, but I have printed documents from MS Word for Mac (2008 version) and had no problems. Perhaps it was an old driver issue that has since been resolved.
I was a little miffed when I did not find a user's manual in the box. I suspect they are cutting costs while being environmentally friendly. Fortunately, hp has the manual online here:

Toner for this printer costs a little under $70 retail, about what I expected. Overall very happy and would recommend this printer to others.
Customer Review: Extremely happy with print quality Summary: 5 Stars
Easy to install. If you're new to this, install the CD before doing anything else. The steps are easy to follow, beginning with how to unpack the printer. (I am running Windows XP)
After using an HP LaserJet 6P printer (600 dpi) for many years, I was ready for a new one; one that would not weigh almost as much as a TV, would take 1/2 the space of the HP LJ 6p, and one that matched the black/silver color of my new computers.
Because I do a lot of graphic work, I need a high quality laser printer. This inexpensive (1200 dpi) model fit the bill for all of my needs. (I see that the price just decreased another six dollars--dang it! LOL.)
** Luckily, I already had a USB cable because this printer does not come with one. It does come with the main plug (printer to electrical socket). **
It is clear in the Amazon images that the paper is not protected from dust or anything else that might affect the quality of the paper in the tray--this is a concern if you plan to leave paper in the tray at all times.
Enjoy!
Customer Review: Broken Machine; Sucky Customer Service Summary: 1 Stars
I received the printer in great time. I waited a couple of days to hook it up. I didn't need instructions. The driver download was pretty fast. The printer wouldn't print. I went to the Web site and used the online chat feature to try to figure out the problem. First, I waited near an hour for a rep, then I was on the chat with them for about 4 hours. The printer still doesn't print. I thought it maybe needed a new USB cable, so I bought one. Nope, the USB port on the printer is bad. I communicated this to HP and they said they'd send me another printer but first they want to call me to get my credit card information (they want to be able to charge me in case I don't send the broken one back) but because they are somewhere in Asia I think, they called my work number at 9 pm and left a message in some language that I couldn't understand and didn't leave a call back number. Here I am a month later, and I still have to forward stuff to my office if I want to print it out. I subsequently sent HP another e-mail, but nothing so far. Good Grief!
Customer Review: HP-Great Value, simple and easy Summary: 5 Stars
Since I rated this five stars you know I like the printer. Truth is, it's an exceptional value--perfect for the small office or home/kids computer. It's fast, quiet, and with my XP operating system I was up and running within about fifteen minutes. (Being a guy, I did not read directions and I guess luck was with me!)
Within minutes I tried their two-sided printing feature: excellent. Since then, I've come to appreciate the extremely quick start-up, HP's "Instant-on" technology.
One hint I don't believe I've seen mentioned. The set-up discs from HP are known to toss in extras--marketing pop-ups, supplemental software widgets that have nothing to do with the original focus (printing) and who knows what else. Frustrating! At the HP website, you can download the bare-bones, most up-to-date P1006 driver and avoid loading your computer with their needless extras. I've made a habit of this with all new hardware--especially HP.
We have so many choices, I expect a lot. I think, at least this time, HP delivered.
