Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Axion AXN6079 7-Inch Twin Monitor Portable DVD SystemCustomer Review: So far so good... Summary: 4 Stars
I was really reluctant to purchase this DVD player set after reading the reviews, seems the opinions were split down the middle. Since I really need something to keep my kids (4 and 1) occupied for the long drive cross-country soon; I decided to go ahead with my purchase.
Delivery was kind of a nightmare; when it finally got here, I thought it looked nice and really liked the bag it came in. Everything has a nice little compartment and it would be easy to carry from place to place.
Installing them into the vehicle took less than 5 mins. The cords are a little bit of a hassel but I found a way to bundle the cords with something kind of like the velcro strap that comes on the cord to a laptop, works really well. I tucked the buddled cords into the seat pockets of the seats in front of them so the kids won't be tempted to play with them.
I really like that the player itsself comes separate from the monitors so it can be placed up front with me, instead of having to reach back to change DVDs. The only thing I wish was different is the monitors, I'd prefer if they both came on when the player itsself was turned on. For those who only want to utilize one at different times, you do have the option to do so though with the way it is.
The pictures and quality looks good so far...I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying they are messing up after a couple of weeks so I'll be back with an update if and when that happens.
~fingers crossed~
Customer Review: Excellent image Summary: 5 Stars
I realized that all portable dvd players with dual screen for the car have very bad reviews. I understand... I had one that lasted only 3 trips (sorry I cannot remember the brand, but it was not Axion). I thought I was never going to buy another one but, honesty, 3 kids and one long trip made me take the risk.
This system is much better than the other one because the dvd is played on a third device instead of on the back of one of the screens. This makes you have more control over the shock the device may experience. The image is very good. With my previous screens, only the person seated right in front of it could see it. These ones can be seen from any angle. It is very easy to instal and uninstall, just a few cables (no video, R and L cables). They can be used anywhere, not just the car because they can be connected to any electric outlet too.
I was surprised to find out they come with its carry bag. Most models come without it and finding one that fits is an extra problem.
Sorry I have no comments about the sound; we use the aux and listen to it on the car speakers. Durability, well, after reading all the reviews I have not great expectations. I will have to trust the warranty and if, it fails just after it expires, I hope it will have given us many hours of peaceful rides.
Customer Review: So far it's been great for us Summary: 4 Stars
We've used this for at least six road trips thus far and it's working great. The picture quality is nice, the screen size is good and the sound is good. It's also quite durable. We keep the main unit on the arm rest between the two front seats and I've jabbed it many times with my elbow, knocked it down, leaned on it accidentally when readjusting in my seat, ect. No problems at all! There were a couple times when the DVD would not load. We just had to take it out and put it in again. I also don't agree that there are a lot of wires, as other reviews have said. There is 1 wire for each monitor and one wire to plug the main unit in -- just what I would expect. The wires are a bit long, but you can use a zip tie to take up the slack. Also, the straps that go on the headrest have been fine - they've not even loosened at all.
I love having two screens with separate controls so when one child is napping we can shut his monitor off and lower the volumn on the other.
The only con is that it does not have a battery so when we stop for gas we have to restart the movie. That's a bit of a pain, but otherwise for the price I think this is a very good product.
Customer Review: Great: Sound, Video, Player; could have better connectors Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this for long road trips for our kids and us to enjoy. We just got back from 2,400 mile road trip and it worked like a charm. The screen is good, the sound is great and the buttons on the screen and player are easy to use.
My only issue, (not even all that big of a deal), is that the S-video connectors that are used to connect the screens to the player aren't the most stable connections. They work great and make it easy to place the screens and player anywhere you want, but they seemed to fall out somewhat easy. And my wife one time didn't have the cable connector lined up perfectly and bent the fragile pins. I had to meticulously straighten all the pins in order to use that connector again.
It is nice that it comes with an A/C adapter as well. I took the player and one screen out of the SUV and into our motel room one night. (kind of a pain because the screens don't stand up, but hey, it worked.
I would recommend this setup to anyone. It doesn't matter if you have 2 or 3 rows of seating in your vehicle, the long cables to the screens will reach anywhere and still leave the parents in control of the player itself.
Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
After reading all the reviews bashing portable DVD units and not finding any that consistently got good marks, I didn't have high hopes. But this one seemed to get the best reviews in the write-ups and we decided to give it a whirl. We used it on a 2,500 mile, 16 day trip and it performed prefectly. It was nice to have the remote control and the carrying case was fabulous, so we could stow the unit during the trip.
The one thought I have for all DVD manufacturers is that it would be helpful to have on the actual unit that plays the DVD or on the remote a small screen that shows what you are looking at. This was bought for a 1 and 3 year old to watch and they aren't going to be manning the remote, so it was a bit of a challenge to curl around to the back seat to get some of the shows going that didn't 'auto play'. The logisitcs of essentially providing a 3rd screen are difficult enough that I still think it deserves 5 stars. I like the tilt screen and being able to adjust the brightness too.
Extremely easy to set up--we did it on the fly w/o instructions.
