Customer Review: Not Quite Premium But They'll Do

I bought these earbuds to replace the original set that came with the 80 GB Zune player after the cable frayed inside its cloth cover near the connector to the device itself after less than two years of use. I never cared for its cloth cover because the friction would transmit noise, unlike the plastic ones. I also couldn't understand how a product with such a high price tag would have earbuds of such shoddy workmanship such as a weak plastic sheet to protect the area that bends the most in its cable, i.e., the section of the cable with the connector at the end. So, looking for a replacement set I found out that they are quite expensive for their given quality and there was this set of so-called Zune Premium Earphones listed that I could get for less than half their retail price at Amazon. Let's begin, these cannot be called "Premium" as the cable is shorter than the original set (it is listed as being 4.6 feet long and it might be around 3); it has the same shoddy workmanship in the cable's connecting end as the original set; the storage box is pretty much useless as most people simply wrap the cable around the player when not using it and the original's convenient magnets on the earbuds themselves are unmatched on this set as it has a tiny one on only one of them that doesn't keep them together. They, however, sound better than the original set as the lower sound range is better reproduced, the cable doesn't have an annoying cloth cover and they fit fine. Also, they block ambient noise better for me than the other set, but that might be due to the particular earpieces that came with it as I never changed the ones the original came with. So, would I pay full retail price for this item? Not on your life! Otherwise, I am satisfied for now. I bought them just about a month ago. Let's see what happens... Sound and fit is fine by me, otherwise they are too cheap to be called "Premium" and too expensive for what they are, although I was proven wrong when thinking that a $5 set bought at Blockbuster for a cheap backup "would probably perform just as well." They didn't and this set sounds infinitely better than said $5 set. I, furthermore, am not an audiophile and can't compare the quality of sound of this so-called Zune Premium Earphones with the competition. Use larger magnets on the earpieces, extend the cable by at least a foot and make sure that the end of the cable by the connecting piece is better and they might be worth the Premium label.
