Customer Review: Zune 4 GB Summary: 4 StarsI received my Zune 4 GB from my kids about 2 years ago for Christmas. They all have I-Pods but they chose the Zune for me because it has FM radio. I love the downloaded music for air travel but also use it at home. The radio function is great when at a live event that is broadcast on FM radio. The thing that initially frustrated me was when I would turn it off, the battery would drain. I found that if I lock it, this doesn't happen, or at least not nearly as fast. The instructions may indicate this, but who reads instructions? My only frustration now is the Zune's poor marketing by the Microsoft. I have to go to Best Buy for anything I need and even then, I need to look hard for it. I would like to see the popularity and availability of the Zune to be that of the I-Pod. I was a bit dissapointed when I purchased a charging unit for it that it didn't come with a cord. I then had to purchase a USB cord. That doubled the price of the charger. Sadly the cord only lasted about 4 months so I'm back to using the same cord it came with that I keep with my computer. The Zune music website as well as the function of the player is great. I just wish accessories were easier to come by.
Customer Review: Fantastic MP3 Player!! Summary: 5 StarsI purchased this for my dad a while back. He's sort of technology-challenged but he got the hang of this player rather quickly. He uses the subscription based service from Zune and it's worked out great. He brings it to me to update it with new music so I use the zune interface often. It didn't take me long to get accustomed to the way it works. It's also been very reliable. He had a IRiver rhapsody before and it gave us nothing but trouble. Loosing files, needing to be reset and not syncing to the computer. This player has been a dream!
Customer Review: Decent, could be better Summary: 4 StarsThere are some very good things about the zune 8GB and some bad things.
Pros:
Pretty portable and sturdy
nice screen; cool, functional buttons.
Skipping songs while in shuffle mode is almost instantaneous, whereas the ipod video I used to have was laggy in that respect.
Wireless Syncing
Sound quality best Ive heard on an mp3 player Ive owned yet.
Nice UI, smooth useful buttons
Cons:
Being limited to the zune software sucks, I hate their software, its hard to get used to and isnt very user friendly.
I cant use my zune as a mass storage device. Come on microsoft, its an 8GB flash player, at least give us that. Imagine wirelessly transferring files from a directory on your zune, to your computer. Even if I had to use the zune software for that aspect it would be cool. But using it as a thumb drive WITHOUT the zune software would be a huge plus.
Holding down the play button DOES NOT turn off the zune, even though that is what the manual says. This puts it in hibernate which still wastes battery and will generally drain your zune over night. to ACTUALLY turn off your zune you need to hold BACK and DOWN at the same time for 3 seconds. COME ON microsoft. What crack-smoking technician was responsible for not telling us how to turn off our zunes? Geez.
This isnt a big thing, but I wonder how long the flash memory will last in the zune.
