Customer Review: Please avoid at all costs...(ziotek esp.)
Summary: 1 Stars

In quick summary - all four machines I have purchased over three months have failed within one day to one week. Horrible mechanisms and poor drives have made for a nightmare dealing with these machines. Please contact me if you have any questions about these wretched devices as I would hate to have anyone go through buying these - all of my employees wish for any other machines except these.

In addendum (May 2008) - another machine we had purchased failed after two months (mechanism and ejection)...possibly for a low usage turnstile this might be an option for you - but store owners that are looking for high usage storage - not a recommendation.

Added (June 2008) - another machine has begun to fail daily now. They might work great for low usage but assuredly not for daily usage/store distribution type.

(May 2009) - as a long term follow up, 2 of the 9 machines I have remain in working order. The rest fail daily, and 2 of them I had to take apart to get to the discs. Unfortunately, they were so expensive I do not want to reboot with a whole other storage system; There is a sister machine out there somewhere that has lasted this long but I have not been able to find them.

Customer Review: Good Product With Room To Improve
Summary: 4 Stars

I've owned the Zio Tek DC-300 for about a year now and have had nothing but good things to say about it. If you are like me and own a constantly growing DVD collection and want to reduce the space and catalog the CD information then I highly suggest looking into this product. The unit itself is solid, takes awhile for initial set up but that's only because you have to manually load in all of your CD's. It is quiet when operating, blue lighting effects (sort of cool add on by the company) The software that comes with it is where I would recommend improvements -

It allows you to search and sort for Disc Title (specifically using a search bar, or alphabetically by clicking a tab), Machine Name (If you have over 150 CD's you can buy additional units and link them together), Slot Number and Category. Database is very easy to understand. I wish they would allow you to personalize categories to sort by, but overall I can't complain. I would also like to see a future unit that perhaps has a built in DVD player making it unnecessary to handle discs at all.

If you don't want to turn on your computer you can keep a print out of your catalog and manually put in the disc number.

Customer Review: Many Corners Cut.
Summary: 2 Stars

Received the unit, and noticed immediately the the manual was written in very poor English, this alerted me right away that I was in for a ride. The unit was surprisingly light, possibly attributable to the cheap materials, all of the gears inside the unit are plastic. The software was of excessively poor quality. It used the "Three bars" style of installer menu that I haven't seen since windows 95. Upon plugging the unit in, it's front panel began blinking "SOS". This is rather confusing, considering it could be misinterpreted for "505" on the display. It would not function at all, The software reported "Unknown Error". I called customer support and was speaking to a person very quickly (a welcome change from the usual 10 minutes spent on hold or with a machine). He led me through a few steps involving inserting a flathead screwdriver into the gears at the front of the unit to attempt to fix it. This did not work and I was offered to have the unit exchanged. Instead I chose to return the unit given the general poor build-quality.

Customer Review: Great idea for disc storage
Summary: 5 Stars

I love these things! I certainly can't think of an easier or better way to organize CDs (software and/or music) and DVDs that used to be scattered in different places. Though the software is functional and is a boon to finding titles and spitting out the disc easily and quickly, I have some bones to pick with the software developer(s). The mouse wheel will only scroll the cursor on the active screen. It does not scroll the window. I have 2 units daisy-chained. If I select a disc from carousel 1, it ejects. But if I then select a disc from carousel 2 it will not eject unless I double-click it again. Neither flaw is a showstopper but thought the negatives (albeit minor) should also be mentioned. I communicated these complaints with the distributor and was told that there is a new version of the software in the works. I hope I see it soon.

Customer Review: The ultimate CD\DVD storage and indexing solution
Summary: 5 Stars

Now I can have all my CDs in one place instead of lying around everywhere and I have got a great place to store them where they will not get scratched! I have them all indexed with a database on my computer, with the media carousel connected to my computer more than 110 disk can be right in my reach with the click of the mouse.
Some reviews have said that the loading arm is flimsy; it looks to me to be very sturdy.

I have got to talk about the DBMS I am using, Collectorz.com database is much better than what the one it was sent with! For movies you just enter in the title and it gives you pictures, actors, dates, plot... it makes a custom query linked to IMDB it auto fills everything in and saves the information. The system can account for my disk that are each holding 15 different movies.
