I bought this cooler after reading positive reviews here, in hope that it would cool my old MacBook Pro during recording sessions in the summer months. Unfortunately, the fans on this cooler are too loud for recording. The fans are louder than ones on my firewire drives, and sound like a low gurgle.
It's probably fine for gaming & video editing, but for use in a room with recording equipment, the fans are much too loud -- and so the search continues.

I did a great deal of background work on many notebook coolers.A couple of problems kept coming up.# 1--Plastic and cheap. #2--Loud noise from fan units. You just knew the units were never going to hold up. But then I found the unit from Zalman. The unit is not only good looking,it is made of sturdy metal construction. Quiet as a marshmellow hitting the floor. I mean wisper quiet.
This unit will be with me for years to come--I made the correct move with this unit.

I'm very satisfied with this cooler. It fits under my 17" laptop perfectly. I even had one guy come up to me and ask what the product was because he couldn't find a cooler that fit under his laptop. It's also very quiet. I think the built in fan is louder than this.
The only negative thing about this I can say is once or twice I could hear one of the fans hitting against something else inside it, but that didn't last long. This is a very good laptop cooler.

I'm very happy with the quality and features. I like that the fans can be turned off or scaled down because they're not completely quiet. I don't think I could sleep at night with them turned on. But, my Macbook Pro is running noticeably cooler during intense CPU/GPU use.
The stand is quite ergonomic and comfortable to work on. It fits my 17" perfectly...with a few millimeters on each side to spare. However, I wouldn't consider it portable.

I bought this about 3 months ago. at first it seemed like it worked, but after taking the time to actually measure things. I found this cooler to be lacking. maybe because my expectations were to high, but it only cooled about 5 degrees less than when my laptop was idle @ 65 C. so yeah it works, but definitely not what I expected. it is a little to short to fit comfortably in my lap, but has not died on me yet even after repeated drops to the ground.
