Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Notebook Cooler, Silver, ZM-NC2000Customer Review: Sometimes, you really do get what you pay for Summary: 4 Stars
This is the best laptop cooler ever!
My old cooler was a Targus and it was just too small for my 17" laptop. It's quality was also not up to par as one of the fans broke within just a new months.
Pros:
- Quiet fans, yet they still keep the laptop cool
- Nice build quality and finish
- Style and the angle slope makes typing on the laptop easier.
- The aluminum top always feels cool to the touch before I set my laptop on it
- No need for a AC Adapter (also a Con)
Cons:
- One of the USB ports are used to power the device, thus you end up with no extra USB ports.
- No USB Hub built in. A 4 port USB hub, two ports per side, would make this perfect. This would have required a separate AC adapter for power.
I hope Zalman will make one with a Hub, I'll be 1st in line!
Customer Review: The best of three tried BUT Summary: 3 Stars
Unfortunately, a lot of these reviews are misleading and overly enthusiastic. The fact is it is better than two others that I have tried and it sits well on the stand however the stand is NOT meant for use in your lap. I still have to place it on something else because there are vents underneath that do not clear if it is sitting in your lap.
After owning this for better than a month now I can tell you that the reason it cools at all is because of the material it is made of; the fans are quiet, they DO NOT put out a lot of air BUT they keep the base cool which in turn keeps the computer somewhat cooler than it would be on its' own.
For those who wonder, the fans blow toward the computer not pulling away.
The best cooler I've had so far is too small for my Toshiba Satellite A305 and that would be the Targus model I have for my smaller Dell.
Customer Review: Finally a great notebook cooler Summary: 5 Stars
Before buying this product I had purchased 3 other notebook coolers; 2 Antec USB powered and the Startech. All 3 of the other coolers worked for only about 2-3 months before the power cords started splitting and wearing out. The Zalman is an excellent cooler and very rugged. It connects via USB at both ends of the power cord (the cooler side and the notebook side). It's plenty wide enough for my 19 inch laptop and keeps it quite cool. I have an Dell Inspiron 9300 and due to heat issues in the past have already had the fan replaced twice, the heatsink replaced, and the motherboard changed out. Though it is very pricy, it is very much worth it. If anything I would hope that more fans would be added since there is so much space available to the unit.
Customer Review: Pretty, but useless Summary: 1 Stars
I just bought one of these things (a ZalmanZM-NC2000). It certainly looks nice, and the Dell XPS M1710 sits on it nicely. (It's a 17" laptop - fan intakes on the bottom in the back.)
There are only two problems.
1) It doesn't cool the laptop. (I monitor temps, and it made no difference.)
2) It's VERY uncomfortable on your lap - the rear aluminum frame cuts across your legs.
Oh, yes. If you put it on your lap, you cover the fan inlets (the temp monitoring I did for 1 above was on a table.)
So unless your looking for an expensive way to prop your laptop on your desk, look elsewhere for a solution to the hot lap problem. What a waste of money.
Customer Review: Great Quality and Quiet Summary: 5 Stars
Have purchased two of these from Amazon over the last year. They are very well made and solid. The fan is variable speed and quiet. The nice blue light
tells you when it is powered on. The other nice thing is that the fan works out of the USB port on your laptop. It works when running the internal battery as well
as when the laptop is plugged into AC power. The ZM-NC2000 is bigger than my MacBook Pro 15" by about 1 inch on both sides. My Mac runs about 10F
degrees cooler with this stand. This product is far superior quality wise than the others from Targus, Belkin, etc. You cannot go wrong with this,
you pay a little more for guaranteed better quality.
