Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Notebook Cooler, Silver, ZM-NC2000Customer Review: Quiet, simple, convenient, works effectively. Summary: 5 Stars
I am using this cooler with a Sony Vaio 16.4". Using both System Info and Hardware Monitor software to check the temperature of the CPU's, the GPU, and the HDD prior to using the pad and then after using the pad, I noticed that this pad keeps the CPU's and the GPU cooler by about 5 degrees celcius during heavy stress (gaming). They reach about 68 celcius maximum without the pad, and 63 maximum with the pad. The HDD reached 42 degrees celcius without the pad, and 38 degrees with the pad.
So all in all, this does a good job of keeping the laptop cool, and it does it very quietly. If the room is otherwise completely silent, then you can hear the fans in the pad running ever so faintly (when they are running at maximum), and even then only when you put your ear up to it.
The fan speed adjuster works well, but I always just keep the fans running at maximum. The size of the device is perfect for my 16.4" laptop, and the included USB cable is just long enough to reach the computer's closest USB port without being too long so that the wire gets in the way. The extra USB port on the device compensates for the one that it occupies on the laptop.
It's so easy and simple to use, also. Just place the laptop on it (and it has rubber pads on its surface to keep the laptop from slipping), plug in the USB cord, hit the power button, and that's all there is to it. Basically this device does everything I would want it to, and it does it all very well. I wouldn't dream of using a laptop without it again.
Customer Review: Slight flaw.. Summary: 3 Stars
I use this with a dell XPS M1730 gaming laptop (17" screen). Obviously weight is not an issue for me as the laptop itself is nearly 20 pounds. I don't find the cooler to be uncomfortable or heavy. The issue I have is that my laptop fits perfectly on this cooler - If you look at the picture, notice that there are no holes on the top part of the cooler. It's about 4" I'd say. This means that although the fans are under this area, there is no airflow in this area, and therefore this section gets very hot (the exhaust fan on my computer is also located in this area). It's better than most other coolers I've tried, but I have to move my laptop off the cooler so the back of the laptop is in line where the holes of the cooler end, so about 5" of my laptop is hanging off the front of the cooler. Eventually I may modify it. I just don't see a reason why they would design it this way (I understand it has to be designed this way to work as they have it set up... but another design would have been better). I will say that being aluminum this cooler is much better than all other plastic coolers I have come across. My computer actually melted a handful of them. This cooler does work very well with my 15", 12", and 13" as well as they fit over the holes better. (For a 12" though I would highly recommend the Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler as it is cheaper, smaller, and works very well with my HP - which gets hotter than my 17", but there's really no reason to buy this cooler for a smaller computer anyway).
Customer Review: Pretty Quiet; made for a LARGE laptop Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this because my Inspiron E1705 died due to a problem with the video memory. I sent it to an independent co. to fix (laptoprescuer dot com) to get it fixed. The memory probably died because the laptop gets pretty warm. I got the cooler to hopefully extend the life of my notebook and also because it's annoying to hear the laptop fans on high.
The first NC2000 I got had fans that were louder than my laptop fans on high. Since they claim that the laptop cooler is 'ultra-quiet', I had Amazon mail me another one - which was half as loud, which was OK with me. It worked out well because the 2nd one arrived in 2 days, and I just used those boxes to ship the old one back. They let me print out a sticker, so it didn't cost me anything! The fans are loud enough to hear, but not too loud in my opinion.
The IMPORTANT THING to understand is that this laptop cooler is for a notebook which sucks air through it's base and out the sides (because the cooler forces air out of it's beveled top). I never hear my fan on high, so the cooler is doing its job. The people that claim the cooler doesn't work for them probably have the wrong type of laptop.
Also, this cooler is for a very large laptop (fits my 17" Dell) - if you have a small one, get a different cooler.
Also, the fans pull the air in from the bottom of the cooler, so it's not appropriate to put on your lap.
Customer Review: Wayyy beyond my expectations Summary: 5 Stars
The GPU on my HP DV9500 notebook had begun shutting the system down at 102-103C while running streaming video full screen, at age two years plus a little. This had been an occasional problem since I got this powerful notebook, but a few months ago, started overheating more frequently. Did some online research, and had found the Zalman coolers for the desktops I put together myself to be very efficient and quiet, and bought the ZM-NC2000 to see how it might affect the DV95 overheating problem.
The results have really amazed me. Running full screen streaming vids now produces temperatures of 67 to 70C from the GPU.
This is an amazing little piece of work. Zalman hits a homer here. It looks very good, is so quiet you can't hear that it exists, and I'm guessing it will add a lot of life to my old notebook.
Notebooks don't last very long, compared to desktops. I'm a retired semiconductor test manager. Heat is an enemy to semiconductors. In future, I will always couple any laptop I own with a Zalman cooler. The Zalman NC-2000 is a totally pleasant surprise! I must give it the highest rating allowed. It is awesome great!
Customer Review: Perfect !! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Dell Studio XPS 1650. The system is configured with Icore 7 processor, 4 gig DDR3 ram, and 1gig ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 video card. The harddrive is 500gig 7200 rpm. This system runs hot, hot, hot. The area to the left of the touchpad got uncomfortably warm. Since the purchase of the cooler, it is great. I use the machine on my lap and although it could be a bit more comfortable it is acceptable. I haven't checked the temps but between the actual feeling and fan activity I have noticed a much improved and better running system. I spent months trying to find a cooler that would extend the life of this machine and I am convinced that the Zalman product is exactly what I was looking for.
Some have mentioned noise, the fans on this are so quiet that I find myself checking to be sure it is actually working. The fan noises on the computer are much louder than the cooler, even when set on the fastest speed.
Although I purchased the system for travel use only, it has become my standard use computer so the cooler is getting daily heavy use. I have had the cooler for about a month.
I consider my knowledge of computer hardware above average.
