I use the Xantrex Technologies 851-0178 XPower 175-Watt Micro Inverter
to power my laptop when in the truck. It's perfect for this use. The fan puts out a faint whir, but it's not at all objectionable, and after just a few minutes, you forget it's there.
I can't think of any cons, and I'd buy another if the need arose.

We bought this as we moved states and had to (at least try to) take our five saltwater fish with us. We needed to power two air pumps to get air to them during the 20 hour trip. This inverter worked like a champ. The pumps didn't take a lot of amps, but it still worked great and the fan noise was minimal. Couldn't hear it over road noise.Customer Review: Works as advertised

Bought this item to power a laptop computer on a boat. The computer requires 65-watts. It provides all the power the laptop requires. The caution is it draws almost 5 amps at 12 volts to do so. It's quiet and runs cool with no "electronic" noise detected. It's a bit wide at the ac plug end. You'll need good clearance around the dc plug.Customer Review: Durability POOR

This item is poorly constructed. It failed after using it occasionally for one year. Dissasembly of the failed inverter shows very poor construction techniques. The transformer had broken loose from the circuit board because the manufacturer depended upon very thin wires to hold this heavy component in place. This is the perfect item for anyone who uses technogly on the road. This will chage any item and you don't even have to start the car. As long as th radio is on this will chage anything you have from computer to cellphones you will never have to worry about having the right car chager again. This is perfect and works for any car.
