Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of XFX PVT44AWANG GeForce 6200 256MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card (VGA/DVI/S-Video)Customer Review: Excellent upgrade Summary: 5 Stars
I installed this on my 3-yr old PC with an ASRock K7V3M motherboard. I bought a 19" widescreen monitor recently and the integrated graphics driver does not support widescreen resolutions (and it was giving me problems anyway) so I had to switch to AGP. Although the Mobo suport only up to AGP 4x, I had no problems using this card. The included installation guide was minimal but adequate. I connected it via DVI cable (not included) and setting up the BIOS and Windows XP to use the GeForce was straightforward. It automatically detected my widescreen monitor's optimum resolution (1440 x990) and used that by default. I downloaded the latest drivers/software instead of using the CD that came with it. The utility software was useful since I had to re-configure the color and gamma settings of the monitor - its in a well-lighted room so the default configuration is a bit washed out.
Inexpensive, AGP bus, good performance and easy to install - for a non-gamer that's all I can ask for. An excellent product and upgrade for those with older systems that don't support the new PCI-E bus.
Customer Review: Excellent price, decent graphics card Summary: 4 Stars
This isn't exactly high end for graphics card, but I needed a functional card that played nicely with Linux and the 22" Westinghouse widescreen monitor we recently bought ($169 at Target on black Friday, woot!). I have an older computer, so I've had issues with X locking up on me when OpenGL functions were hit (glxgears, glmatrix screensaver, chromium game, etc.). I played a bit with BIOS settings and bought a new power supply and now all of the above seem to work fine with NVidia's proprietary drivers. I still can't get compiz to run with this card on my computer, but I blame my computer for that more than this card. That being said, I've seen a bunch of comments about the 6200 series having weird crashing/hard-locking problems (on Linux as well other OSen) that lead me to believe there may be some fundamental problems with this card that NVidia still hasn't ironed out yet with their drivers.
So, anyway, nice card, good cheap price, functional for 22" widescreen monitor support, but you may have problems doing anything intensive or OpenGL.
Customer Review: Replacement for motherboard based graphics processing Summary: 3 Stars
This part was purchased to replace the integrated graphics controller on a packaged HP PC. The installation couldn't have been easier, I think if it could have, it would have jumped into the AGP socket on it's own, and just started up. Beautifully done installer. I have been around computing long enough to recall when it was nearly terrifying to do anything to an upgrade.
I wish I could say the same for the vendor, computer brain. This is a third party reseller, making them the fourth party? (or is that me) with many twists and turns in the hand-off from one company to another. Since they are all likely making money, I would suppose the actual net OEM price must have been about 2 bucks. I should shop around more. Lackluster performance, I was told the same shipping story several times, but in novelistic and twisted ways. The phone is answered on the third ring by a real person, although...hmmm! The part did show up in a new box, and in new condition, so it ends well.
Customer Review: Better than expected Summary: 4 Stars
If you have an old desktop and would like to use it couple more years by upgrading certain parts, this product should be one of your video card options. First of all, the price is very affordable for a video card. Installation is not too complicated. However, I should mention here that you should pay attention to the warnings in the manual (e.g. uninstall old video card).
If you are using Vista you don't, I think, need to use the installation disk because Vista recognize the card automatically. Windows XP, on the other hand, does not...
I've been using this card for about a month or so and I'm impressed with the color quality. When I watch high definition movie trailers everything is smooth and colors are crisp. Since I'm not a gamer, I cannot tell you anything about this card's gaming performance.
To sum it up, this card is a good choice when everything is taken into consideration. Price, performance, and ease of use make it an easy pick.
Customer Review: Works as expected. Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a cheap video card that would let my girlfriend play World of Warcraft on her 6 year old 1.6GHz P4. Knowing that I'll be building her a new computer soon, I just wanted to get the job done. This card fits the bill. Without any in-game tuning (using the video setting defaults) she is able to play without too much interuption or skipping. (When she gets in a city it gets pretty bad though.) The card worked right out of the box. Windows XP SP2 didn't have native drivers, and the ones on the CD were very old, but a download from NVidia's website and it was up and running quick. This model is fanless, which is nice, because there are less moving parts to fail. All in all, I got exactly what I expected for $57, and few headaches. I also like the nice small boxes video cards come in now (most software titles too), gone are the days of having to pay extra shipping or store mammoth boxes for small items.
