Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Wolverine Data 7080 FlashPac 80 GB Portable Digital Pictures and Data StorageCustomer Review: Works great and small to boot. Summary: 5 Stars
I recently took this with me to shoot a wedding. After I would fill a card I would stick it in the Wolverine and push copy. The wolverine was thrown back in my camera bag to do its thing and by the time the next card was full I could repeat the process. I shot and stored 12 gigs that night and the Wolverine did everything I asked. The battery held out nicely. That night I charged its battery again so I have no idea how long you can go on one charge. I only had SD and CF cards to transfer. I have no idea how long it takes to transfer either, as I was busy doing other things like it transferred.
Two things really impress me. One is how easy it is to use. Literally, stick your card in, turn it on, press copy. It copies the card into a folder. Each card you get in and press copy gets its own folder so there is no worries about overwriting images. You might have a mess of duplicates but that is easier to fix than over writing images.
The second is that it will read HDSC cards. Very handy.
Customer Review: So Far So Good... Summary: 5 Stars
So far so good with this little guy. As with any device like this, the more files you allow to accumulate on it before off loading them, the more vulnerable you are to any failure of the machine. I've been using the Wolverine now for about a month and have not had any problem with it. I always wish these things would copy faster, but that's the way it goes. You can view the file copying progress on the display screen as it copies, so although you can't view images on the screen just a glance will tell you whether it's copying or not. The fact that this drive will read a number of memory card shapes and sizes is a real boon for those of us with multiple camera types. I had a Flash Trax unit a few years ago that was also an image viewer, which was nice, but it was five times the cost of this Wolverine and much larger. So if you don't need to proof your images as you go and only need a place to dump lots of files while on the road, check this out. It's a good value for what it costs...
Customer Review: Great product, great price on Amazon Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very handy product. I have a 1GB CF card, a 2GB CF card, and a 1 GB SD card for my cameras and palm pilot. The Wolverine is great for taking all my RAW images in the field to free up my CF cards for more shots.
Operation is extremely simple. Turn it on, stick the card in, press "copy", and you're done! At 80GB, it will take me quite a while to fill up. I plan to take this baby to my Peru and Africa trip later this year.
I gave it a 4-star because the copying speed is a bit on the slow side. If you are shooting in a fast-moving environment, and you only have one memory card, then you'd be missing the action while the Wolverine is making the copy from your card. Other than that bit of limitation, I'm very happy with the product.
Customer Review: Fast downloads Summary: 4 Stars
I liked using this storage unit because it downloads fast, is quite durable, and comes with a very nice small case, but was kind of disappointed in that I had to trust that it did its job properly. I was on vacation the first time I used it, and had to delete my CF Cards after downloading. (I prayed that it worked properly!) After plugging into the computer when I got home, the files were indeed there, but it would be nice to have some sort of menu so that you could at least view that it received all of the files. Other than that, it was really easy to use and its size is perfect.
Customer Review: great gadget Summary: 4 Stars
I didn't have to worry about running out of space on my memory card or have to worry if I brought enough cards for all the pictures I wanted to take. Each night I was able to download my card and start fresh the next day. What made this even better was I could download the memory card after each site I visitied, and it put those pics into its own folder! It made my travellog a lot easier to publish with pics from each site in its own place, I didnt have to waste time on vacation seperating them! I highly recommend this item!
