Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Whistler XTR-140 Laser/Radar Detector with Exclusive Twin-Alert Periscopes

Customer Review: Great for the money!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this to replace a 10 year old unit that was stolen, and it works very well. Way better than the older one I paid much more for. Blue LED's are a nice touch, clearly visible even in mid-day. Picks up radar/laser in more than enough time to slow down. Don't know why there are so many complaints about that cause it works great for me.

Well worth the $$. Buy it!!

Customer Review: Great Radar Detector!
Summary: 5 Stars

This radar detector is very good for the price. It looks cool and alerts well. Works best for highway drivers as highway patrol usually use their radar more often then city police. No radar detector whether $40 or $500 never gives false readings. It can get annoying in the city and city police depending on the department, use laser and not radar and even though it detects laser, if you get caught it's too late. Driving under bridges makes the detector go off. Don't spend a bunch of money on a detector when most don't work, get this one, most bang for the buck.

Customer Review: Worth the price

-edit-
I just wanted to put in an update after a decent amount of use. Works amazing in cities, can usually tell if an officer is driving towards me at around a half a mile in advance. Lights are still working just fine, and the display is the exact same brightness as before. Range seems to be the same. Only difference is the Oklahoma cops. They seem to know I've been dodging them and they are DETERMINED to catch me for something... No luck so far. Safe Driving everyone
-edit-

This thing has saved me from countless camping cops. A major plus. On the downside, it has also given me countless heart attacks. The display is weak during the day and the blue led only helps a little bit. The range is just good enough to brake and pretty much piss off the cop since he knows you were speeding since you are most likely visible but just outside of radar range.

The lights are a big "I KNOW YOU ARE WATCHING ME" It screams I have a detector which is awesome for you at night but bad if you have anything else wrong and the cop feels pissy that night and pulls you over for a brake light since you got out of his speed trap. If the cop has the radar facing the other way you won't notice till you are right on him and you better have good reflexes.

If you get two cops following each other by the time it gets over the first cop the second one is beyond the minimal detection range and you have a good chance of being busted. It happened to me and the cop followed me for two miles since he knew I knew I was speeding and just barely slowed down in time.

Basically the radar is good for the price but if you like loud music during the day or have bad reflexes or heck bad brakes, Go for a more expensive one or learn to split your time watching the radar and checking further down the road for cops driving up on you. It works and the range is JUST good enough to keep the county sheriff out of your pocket but I'd say it is only a temporary fix. Go for an upgrade if you don't want cardiac arrest.

Customer Review: Works great, but...
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first Laser/Radar detector I ever owned. I bought it because I always wanted one but they were too pricey for my pocket book. I waited years until finally now many types can be had for under $50. This Whistler XTR-140 has all the bells and whistles (excuse the pun) you can use. It's a duzzy and works just fine. But,... and here's the rub... seems I've waited too long because I found out that radar detectors have had their day... they are almost rendered obsolete what with modern pulse laser and radar targeting systems that, in the blink of an eye, have pin-point accuracy and photo-capture capability that many police departments now possess. I even wrote the manufacturer about this and they admitted there's not much you can do to counter such stealthy detection... split second targeting and your caught. Their suggestion? Get behind another vehicle and hope they get caught before you! Ha. I don't need a radar detector for that!

Customer Review: Works for everything but Police Radar guns
Summary: 1 Stars

I've been trying this now for one month. It seriously goes off for everything but police radar guns. I drove right by a police car today with his radar gun pointed out the window. The detector was as silent as could be. Driving by grocery stores and other businesses it goes off like crazy. I am returning the detector. Will have to research into different type
