Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Whistler XTR-140 Laser/Radar Detector with Exclusive Twin Alert Periscopes

Customer Review: Amazing cost/performance detector
Summary: 5 Stars

I was extremely skeptical about the performance of a $40 detector, but after a few recent road trips, I am convinced this is actually a well functioning product. Although it does not have exceptional filtering ability for false signals, it can still give you enough X/K/Ka warning for you to slow down in time.

The two blue LED's are a great innovation, because you can easily see them out of the corner of your eye. This is extremely useful when your radio drowns out the audible signals, or when the sun washes out the primary letter warning lights.

You simply can't go wrong with the price. It does not have the features of the top of the line detectors (coiled power cord, voice alert, text readout, settings save, compass, etc), yet it has at its core the most important feature: the basic detection ability to provide enough warning for the driver.

Customer Review: Good buy...One tiny problem though
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a pretty nifty little device. Cheap, small, sleek, and powerful. The only negative experience I've had with it is that the plug in is long and skinny while my power outlet is short and fat, so it pops out and rarely stays in. I even had the same problem after buying a 2-way outlet splitter. I eventually got it to forcefully stay in. This defect didn't bother me to much...just surprising, really. Anyways, it is a great buy and worth the money for sure. I'm just another one of those rare customers that has something strange go wrong. Except I'm not going to let that change my rating to 1 star like most of them. I loved this device for the short time I had it, before it was stolen from my car...

I always thought of it as an investment... 40 dollars now is a lot better than 90 dollars a pop for every speeding ticket you get.

Customer Review: Guaranteed Speeding Ticket
Summary: 1 Stars

I had this for the past month and I do a lot of highway and city driving.
I noticed that on just two occasions, it warned me that a local cop was parked ahead. I wasnt speeding anyway but it was nice to know that it alerted me. I was driving on the highway and twice I saw a cop parked on the ramp pointing a radar gun at my lane and the detector did not go off both times. Luckily I wasnt speeding but if I was, I would have got nailed twice! two tickets.
So dont let this give you a false sense of security. It is not reliable.
Of course it goes off every five seconds when I am driving by a building with automatic doors but thats not the reason I got it.
Its not worth returning because its not worth the effort to package back up and ship out.
I dont know who is giving this 5 stars but this unit is not worth 5 stars

Customer Review: Reduces busting risks by 40 percent
Summary: 3 Stars

I have been using this on highways recently. It gives you warnings with about quarter to half mile in advance. You have to quickly slam on the brakes (dangerous if someone is following you). I passed through tons of cops and this unit gave alarm approximately 35% of time. May be the cops weren't using their radars rest of the times (who knows?). So, do not completely rely on this unit. I would say it reduces your chances of getting busted by about 40% which is still not bad for under 40 bucks. Make sure to mount it as low as possible on the windshield (as in the instruction manual). Cops usually point lasers on number plates or headlights. Lasers are only 3 feet in diamater. I haven't come across any laser or VG2 alarms yet. Don't hestitate to brake after K/Ka alarm. X alarms can be neglected by just lifting off the gas pedals.

Customer Review: BUSTED
Summary: 4 Stars

DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 50 THROUGH NEVADA ABOUT 10PM, SPEED LIMIT IS 70, I HAD THE CRUISE SET TO 80, BAM THE THING GOES OFF, I PUT MY BRAKES DOWN, COP GOING THE OTHER WAY PUTS HIS LIGHTS ON AND TURNS AROUND, IM BUSTED NOT ENOUGH TIME, PULLS ME OVER AND LETS ME GO WITHOUT A TICKET, LET ME GO BECAUSE WE WERE WEARING SEATBELTS, THE CAR HAD SIDE AND FRONT AIRBAGS, I HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL SET FOR 80, HE COULD SEE I WASNT DRIVING DANGEROUSLY AND ONLY TRYING TO GET CROSS COUNTRY AFTER VISITING FAMILY, HE TOLD ME TO DO 70 ON THAT ROAD BECAUSE ANTELOPE RUN ACROSS THE ROAD, IF SOMETHING HAPPENED OUT THERE IT TAKES A AMBULANCE A LONG TIME TO GET TO YOU. OTHER TIMES THE DETECTOR WENT OFF AND HAD ENOUGH TIME TO AVOID TICKETS, I NEVER GO MORE THEN 10 MILES OVER THE SPEED LIMITS THOUGH, FOR DRIVING SAFELY ITS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE.
