For a basic detector it works fine. I put it next to my OLD Uniden (15+years old) and the Whistler picked up things well before the Uniden did. The twin blue periscopes are ANNOYING!!!! They are very bright and on this model are NOT able to be shut off (the next model up you can). The Volume is too loud, even on the lowest setting.
Overall, if you are looking for a good basic radar detector, this is a good one...I've taken a piece of black electrical tape and covered the periscopes, but I shouldn't have to do this!

the unit works decent if you are looking for hi quality look elseware unit does give false alarms in city as expected i bought for my teenage son unit in vg2 mode makes unit very sensitive to all false alarms so he uses on highway mode at all times no memory of previouse settings which is a negative he says in area near his job it does warn him of radar units at night well ahead of visual contact overall for starter unit is fine ther is no city 3 mode unable to find setting in manual and unable to set auto quite mode. does the jobCustomer Review: Nice little device

I have purchased this product a few days ago and find it very helpful, of course for the money you do not expect much more than a working detector and that is what I got. The detector worked already for me driving in town detecting several police cars. The only downfall is that it detected also all kinds of false things. I guess it beeps for almost every store with automatic doors and almost all cars that have a detector themselves. But that will work for me as I am not using it professionally and just as a helpful tool.Customer Review: works like it is supposed to

Ya know, now-a-days, most of the effort i put into buying something standard has to do with price and service. I found amazon to have a good price on this and amazon is my favorite seller so unless things are way cheaper elsewhere, this is usually where i got to purchase run-of-the-mill stuff. all radar detectors are the same except for the bells and whistles so this product would work the same no matter where i purchased it and it does exactly what it says it does so the review is more about amazon that the detector.Customer Review: Good For The Money!

It's almost exactly the same as my old Whistler 1732 radar detector.The only pluses are the blue lights stand out at night,but you can't even see them in the daytime.Also, the 3rd city mode lets you get rid of the X band which almost no police use anymore anyway so it cuts down the false alerts by at least 80%.Worth it, although everything resets everytime so that sucks almost enough to want to buy the next model up.But for now it will work.Also it's way bigger than my old one.Not bad though for 40 bucks.
