I bought this to replace my Circa 1994 Uniden radar/laser detector.
It works as well, if not better than my old Uniden.
The bright display is highly visable and that can be an issue, especially at night if you don't want to be noticed.
I have not found a way to turn the display off.
The beeping is not as annoying as my old Uniden. I need to retrain my ears and brain to pay attention to this new sound.
If you are looking for something inexpensive that will do the job, this is a great deal.

I was skeptical of course of a sub $35 radar detector, but who would'nt be? Only had it a few days but even in Highway mode there is not very much false alerts even in front of Target, Kohl's and such. City mode mutes it really nice. Took it out on the highway yesterday and it spotted K radar from about a mile away, plenty of time to slow down if needed. Have'nt seen any Laser yet so can't comment on that. Performance wise alone no it's not a 5 star, but factor in cost and it's about 5-6 star. Really happy with this sweet little device.Customer Review: Thanks for letting me know

I was skeptical when I purchased this product...my skepticism was well placed...
WIthin the first hour of my road trip, I saw flashing lights in my rearview mirror. It was a second after I noticed the lights in my rearview that the detector decided to "inform me" that there was a police officer attempting to pull me over.
The detector did a mediocre job of going off with enough time to slow down enough...Needless to say, I got 1 ticket on my roadtrip and drove 5+ the rest of the time...
Disappointment.

If you are on a budget and want a radar detector, then you should get the Whistler xtr 140. This thing is awesome. The radar reception is good and the blinking periscope looks cool when it goes off at night when you encounter radar.Check out the reviews. Out of 77 reviews, it got 4 out of 5 stars. There are 200 dollar radar detectors that don't get that high of a review and how embarrasing for them. If you want a solid radar performer for the least amount of money, then you can't go wrong with the Whistler xtr 140. Kudos to Whistler!!!Customer Review: Great!

Awesome price for what it is! Did some extensive research on Unique radar detectors and found that the Whistler xtr-140 was the best deal and reliable coverage that this thing offers. It has basic fuctions on it but it does it's job. When mounting the detector, the best and most accurate place is a few inches under the rearview mirrior. I tried mounting it on the lower drivers side corner and rarely ever recieved any signals and therefore I repositioned it under the mirror. It's a neat toy to have and I recommend buying this product!
