I rate this radar as a 4 star b/c of the great price for what you get. I recently used the radar for a 1 1/2 hour trip and worked ok. It beeped when a cop stopped someone for speeding on the side road but it didnt beep when there was a cop in the next lane but I believe it was b/c the cop was not lasering any cars but just driving and got off the next exit. Its pretty annoying in the city so I suggest to keep it on city mode II. Also while on the road it did give false alarms but I think the $150 ones would as well b/c its SUPPOSE to detect all lasers and you would visually have to see if its a cop. Hey its better than nothing and saves you $$ on tickets. Better to be safe than sorry (even if its annoying).Customer Review: Review/Tests Websites in Post

I'd say for the money its a good detector (not much competition in the $40 range). Just watch out for hills, curves, and instant on. Most cheap detectors lack on Ka band (most popular police radar band) also.
The best detector for the money in my opinion is the BEL v940 Beltronics V940 Vector Radar/laser Detector with Text Display and Voice Alerts (Black/Silver). My brother and fiance both have this and love it.
In short: If you want a real RD get a Beltronics, Escort, or Valentine One. Stay away from Cobra, Whistler, or Rocky Mountain Radar!

I bought the Whistler XTR-140 Laser/Radar Detector, and was surprised how well it worked for a detector under $100. So I went to buy another one. Unfortunately, on the way to buy one, I opted to buy a more expensive Whitler 330 model, thinking it would be an improvement for $25 more. I was wrong, side by side the XTR-140 out performed the other one.
In short, the XTR-140 gives me about 100 yards to 1 mile of warning, depending on weather condition and my speed and the terrain and band used. I guess in terms of time, it's about 2 seconds to 15 seconds. The other "cheaper", under $100 detectors, sometimes don't even alarm.
Overall I'm very happy with my detector.

This detector is great for the price. The only small complaints I have is the fact that it goes off randomly all the time, which isn't that big of a deal, but 90% of the time this detector goes off, its something random, so after a while you stop paying attention to the alerts. It picks cops up from a pretty far distance, but sometimes they sneak up real close before it goes off. The thing is also VERY clunky looking, its flat bottomed, which is kind of weird sitting up in the air on the glass, but whatever. It works, and its cheap, and thats all it needs to be. Sure you could spend 300-500 bucks on a detector, but your not going to be saving yourself any money on speeding tickets then.Customer Review: Above and beyond expectations

Mounted perfectly on my windshield. In highway mode it picks up radar from who knows how far away. Definitely saved me from a few tickets. The ONLY thing i did not like about it was when it picks up a radar, lights start flashing, very brightly. So i feel that even if I am going under the speed limit, the bright lights will draw unwanted attention from the boys in blue. My solution was to put it in my backseat in between the headrest and seat. I can still hear the beep beep beeeeep loud and clear but the bright lights are hidden. One could also but duct tape over the lights I guess, but that's just not my style :)
Definitely worth picking up and checking out!! 4/5
