I bought a similar model in 2005 with the "self cleaning" feature. I used the self-cleaning feature a few days ago and am now left with a broken oven. The self-locking door malfunctioned and now I cannot open the door at all. The oven door is stuck in the locked mode and even turning off the electricity to it will not reset the stove. My oven is "no longer covered under warranty" and Whirlpool refuses to pay for anything, even though the door lock mechanism is obviously defective. I researched online to find that this is not an uncommon problem as many forums showed the same issue. The posts state the problems were that the switch's wire either got disconnected or was melted during the self cleaning due to the high temperatures. I am only able to use the cooktop right now, and even that is frustrating as the stove continuously beeps every two minutes due to the error code from the lock mechanism. Buyers beware, Whirlpool also owns the following brands: Amana, Maytag, KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, Magic Chef, and Jenn-Air.
