Customer Review: Broke in 2 years!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought a WFW9200SQ front loader washer in Sept 2007. We were happy with our purchase, until it stopped working in Oct 2009. That fateful day my wife loaded the washer as usual and tried to power it up. But...huff... it went on strike. Too familiar with the way our computers work - I tried un-plugging the power cord and plugging it back in. Alas, the trick didnt work here and all the buttons on its nice looking console were dead altogether.

Luckily we had bought the extended warranty from the store so I called them up. The repairman showed up within a week and declared that everything seemed fine to him and he was un-sure what might be wrong with the machine. He said he will have to go by trial & error method and see what works. So he will order the front board first - try it - if it doesnt work - go back and order main circuit board - try it - if it doesnt work - go back and order the wiring harness... so on so forth. He said getting Whirlpool parts is no easy job either. (I took it with a grain of salt, I am sure he would say the same even if it was a GE washer...)

What upsets me even more is that, according to repairman the entire exercise may take 2 to 4 months!!! I find this totally un-acceptable! How can a $1000 machine that is supposed to last a life time break in 2 years? We are a 2-person household (I & wife), so our use of a washer has been very limited & gentle.

Customer Review: F70 & F71 Error codes
Summary: 1 Stars

We echo the F70 & F71 error code problems on our Whirlpool Duet WFW9200SQ washing machine. Our washer is 18 months old and has been repeatedly faulting with the error codes, not turning on at all, and the latest is faulting F70 and locking the clothes inside. I found the online help to get the door open. For those of you needing to manually get the door open, remove the bottom panel (3 7mm nut-head screws) and reach up on the right side of the door. There is a grey release tab if pulled downward will open the door.

Back to the washer problems. A local repair service from the company we purchased the machine from refused to work on it, saying that we will have to have the whirlpool service company come do it. He says these error codes refer to faulty circuit boards and the repair bill is usually at least $600 and people get very angry with him when they find this out and he just won't do it anymore.

I am disappointed to see so many people reporting this problem and getting no response from Whirlpool. This purchase is alot of money for average people and I am appalled at having to repace a $900 washer in less than 2 years after buying it.

I wouldn't recommend Whirlpool Duet washers or dryers to anyone. We will never buy another Whirlpool product from this day forward.

Customer Review: LEMON, LEMON, LEMON AFTER 2 YEARS
Summary: 1 Stars

We bought a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer and stacked them in a laundry closet and thought they were the best thing in the world for two years. Then....

The F11 kiss of death code. No repairman really seems to know how to fix it, but thanks to someone else on the internet, I figured out where to PUNCH (I am not kidding, I have to punch it every couple of months) the machine to get it to start working again. This was after days of frustration. In case you have the same problem - you need to punch the machine in the upper back right hand corner and for some reason, it seems to start working again - you may need to unplug it a couple of times, but beats paying a repair man. This trick has worked for the last 6 months so far.

If that wasn't bad enough - the dryer door won't close and pops open after one minute of working. Haven't figured out a creative way around this one yet, but I am going to keep trying.

This combo seems great, but will crap out on you fairly quickly. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!! IT WILL HAPPEN ON YOUR DIME AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES!!!!

Customer Review: So far so good
Summary: 3 Stars

Purchased 3-1-08.

I have loved both the washer and dryer at this point. However, this morning I got the "F26" error that I have read about. Tried calling and of course M-F and this is Saturday. Trying to trouble shoot myself, I took the detergent dispenser out and put it back in thinking maybe it was clogged. Still nothing. So I go online to search out the F26 error.

Other than this site, I found nothing. But; as I was reading the reviews, my husband announced that it was working. I asked him what he did and he said he pulled the detergent door out and opened and closed the door and tried to turn the cycle on again and it worked.

Something is not right with the dryer door either. It won't stay opened, it wants to close while you are taking the clothes out.

So........ hopefully my luck holds out. I researched this machine before I purchased it. It was very highly rated. Hope this helps someone.

Customer Review: Only works for a few years...
Summary: 1 Stars

We've had a terrible experience with this washer. It actually worked fine for the first year and a half, but after that it developed a leak which has grown to about a liter per load (we use baking pans to catch most of it). We had someone out to look at it, and it turns out that detergent collects at the bottom of the door along a plastic insert, exactly where a small hole has formed in the "boot" (big gasket) that seals the water in. The detergent corrodes the boot. Replacing this is really expensive (hundreds of dollars -- a good chunk of a new washer).

I called Whirlpool customer service, and spoke to one of the most unhelpful and unsympathetic customer service agents I've ever encountered. The message was simply, "it's not our problem since it's out of warranty". She didn't even have any advice about how we could work around this.

Bottom line, avoid this one unless you want to replace it after a few years.
