Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Whirlpool Duet HT : WFW9200SQ 27 Front Load WasherCustomer Review: Breaks in 2 to 3 years--Good Luck with Whirlpool Customer Service Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the duet washer and the matching dryer 3 years ago. I spent over $1000 on this washer, which worked fine for about 2 years. Then, we began getting random error codes on the display. We'd unplug it and plug it back in and that seemed to work for a while. 2 weeks ago, the error codes F70 and F71 appeared. The washer quit working altogether and locked our load of clothes inside. I was able to find a trick to resetting the system to at least get our clothes out of the water. However, nothing worked in getting this machine operational again. I called whirlpool customer service and they offered A&E Factory service as a qualified repair shop and set up a service call. The tech came out 4 days later, which is a long time, but OK if he got the machine working on the first try. He did not. He needed to order a part. In the meantime I'm out $270 and I still need to go to the laundromat. The part arrived 3 days later. 2 days after that, the tech got back out to my house and installed the part. Same day, 4 loads later, F70 pops up and the washer shuts down. I call A&E back to complain and schedule a re-call. They tell me I can't schedule another call today because my ticket's still open (!!!!). I need to call back tomorrow. So I call back the next day and they can't get someone back out until a week later. I demanded quicker service and was denied by an unhelpful rep. I explained that the tech was going to take a week to get back out to my home and would likely need to order another part, which would be another week on top of that, which was unacceptable. The rep didn't offer me anything but insincere apologies. So, I called whirlpool back to complain about A&E and they told me I was out of luck. If A&E couldn't bump up my call, there was nothing they could do to make them move any faster. I'm still waiting for next Wed (today is Fri) to have a tech come out and tell me that he needs another part. So, to sum up, don't ever buy a whirlpool ANYTHING. Other reviews on this unit have VERY similar problems. You might be lucky and have a unit that won't crash on you, but if you do need help with a defective unit, prepare for a month of laundromats and uncaring customer service.
Customer Review: Problematic Machine and Bad Customer Service Experience Summary: 1 Stars
I had all the problems that other reviewers had at Amazon.com... door that does not lock all the time, flashing error code, mold and odor problem, and constant service calls that could not determine the issue. In my last service call last week, the repair person indicated that he saw a lot of the same problem and wanted to replace the CPU part - costing $430. He said that my problem was so common that he told me to call Whirlpool to see if they have a recall. I did and I found that the Whirlpool rep was professional but unyielding, refusing to do anything to help. Here are their position:
1. It was not Whirlpool's responsibility after the warranty expired - Whirlpool started counting from when the machine was manufactured and not my purchase date
2. They blamed my repair person - even they were authorized service dealer for Whirlpool - for not able to address the problems for the last 1.5 years
3. We had several technician came in the last 1.5 years trying to find the problem... Whirlpool never had a record of them calling the TECH SUPPORT (but I was there and several of our repair records documented that "CALLED TECH SUPPORT AND NO PROBLEM FOUND."
4. They wanted me to call another authorized service company, paying another $125 for the diagnostic of the problem. After that, I still have to pay for the additional repair.
5. Finally, they asked me to organize my records and fax to them. I did and found out that it was just another to get me off the phone. I called them afterward and they just told me the above #1-4 again.
The Consumer Reports rated Whirlpool well and am very surprised about its quality. I was actually a loyal Whirlpool person, based on Consumer Reports' rating. Almost all of my appliances were from Whirlpool(except the range from GE Elite). I will investigate the class action lawsuit and see what happen there. In the meanwhile, does anyone has any idea on other things that I can do?
Customer Review: do not buy this washer -or anything from whirlpool Summary: 1 Stars
I have been dealing w/whirlpool since 4/23 over trying to repair this washer. Now 2 months later, after 4 service visits and 5 wrong parts ordered, it still isnt fixed. Whirlpool recommended A&E factory service for the repair ( I am out of warranty). All I need replaced is the front control panel ( the plastic top piece that holds the soap dispenser and has the load titles printed on it). Trouble is, they keep sending the wrong part. It has been sent 5 different times, all wrong. A&E cant seem to explain why, they say its whirlpools problem because the parts box is being labeled wrong from whirlpool. Whirlpool has been no help. I am caught in a vicious circle. A&E would never respond to my complaints, only that they could leave a message for Cust. Relations dept. I finally contacted BBB to file complaint. A&E finally responded to my complaint and will refund all the $ paid for parts and labor. I have to wait for 7-10 days for check to arrive. Then I have to start all over trying to contact another company to try to fix - and I'm screwed if they cant get right parts from whirlpool either.
Also, we furnished our brand new home 5 years ago with ALL whirlpool appliances and have had problems with everyone. Dishwasher didnt work out of the box - the heater element was gone (fixed under warranty). It broke again 2 more times in the next 2 years. Then our very expensive stainless side by side frig broke after 4 years - needed new fan - lost all food in fridge and freezer. Then duet dryer has never worked effeciently. The dampness sensor is never accurate. It shuts off after 15 minutes of a 40 min cycle and the load is still very damp. Washer also didnt wok out of the box, some belt was broke or defective. The only things that havent broke are the cooktop and the combo oven/microwave. NEVER buy whirlpool.
Customer Review: Customer Service is a JOKE! Summary: 1 Stars
We bought our washer, new, from the #2 home improvement warehouse in May. Three weeks and about 4 washing loads after we received the washer, there was a clicking sound in the top left area. Water was not coming into the machine and the wash cycle would not start. We called Whirlpool's customer service line and they had a technician from a nationwide repair service come out, one week later. The technician opened the machine and determined that a lever was getting stuck, thus accounting for the noise and the lack of water entering the machine. He "repaired" it. Six months and 3 "repairs" later, I called Whirlpool again to voice my frustration and demand new parts for the machine, rather than the repairs that kept failing again and again. Meanwhile, one technician at the repair service told me that "the other tech didn't fix the machine using new parts because it costs them money and it would be questioned at his employee review and might keep him from getting his raise". The reps at Whirlpool gave me a month-long wait time to have the parts (on "backorder") sent to me while giving me conflicting information regarding my warranty, the part numbers we were waiting for, and refused to forward my call to a manager until I yelled into the phone (which I've never done before). Finally, after one month and one day our washer was working.
We have not had a problem since, Whirlpool extended our warranty by 6 months, and the dryer seems to be working fine. Too little, too late if you ask me! I'm done with Whirlpool appliances.
Customer Review: Whirlpool Duet is a lemon Summary: 1 Stars
I bought one from a local store on July 4th, 2007. 8 months later it quit mid-load and said error code #70. Whirlpool sent a guy out in 4 days, so my clothes were good and soured by then (because frontloading machines lock the door shut during the cycle). 4 months later it still has not been reapired and Whirlpool is giving me the run-around everytime I call. They have ordered central processing units, user control and interface switchboards and computer motherboards, a wiring harness, and a door latch that the reapir man broke forcing it open, and parts were backordered for over a month at a time. Whirlpool has claimed that they lost my records, that they filed it under a different phone number, they tried to claim that I had already returned a washing machine nearly 6 months before mine even broke, they claimed that the repair man never called their tech support line even though I watched him call them 3 different times, etc.
It is extremely unfortunate that I also bought a Whirlpool refrigerator the same day I bought the washer, because otherwise I would NEVER NEVER NEVER buy another Whirlpool.
I doubt other brands are made any "better" but my mom got great customer service from Sears/Kenmore. Customer service is where you make it or break it, and Whirlpool doesn't have any.
The only good thing I can say about the Whirlpool Duet? It's saving me a LOT of water and electricity by sitting there out of service for months on end.
