Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 2.5 Inch, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM SATA II WD5000BEVTCustomer Review: Hot and Noisy Summary: 3 Stars
Hot and noisy is how I like to party (*sic), not how I like my hard drives. I upgraded my 13" Macbook Pro from the standard hitachi 160gb to this monster of memory device. Packaging and install went swimmingly, but once booted, my previous silent assassin become a pentium 4 notebook circa 2003. I do like the extra space, but the heat on my legs and the sound of the drive is a constant reminder of a poor decision. If done over, I might have gone with the seagate Seagate Momentus 5400 500GB 5400RPM SATA 3Gb/s 8MB Cache 2.5 Inch Internal NB Hard Drive ST9500325AS-Bare Drive or the Hitachi 500GB Travelstar SATA 7200 RPM Laptop Internal Hard Drive HD20500IDK/7K - Retail. Maybe I'm just disappointed large affordable SSDs are not here yet.
Customer Review: Perfect upgrade for PS3 Summary: 5 Stars
Based on recommendations from friends as well as the overall positive reviews on various websites, I decided to order this HD to upgrade my PS3. It works great! Installation was a breeze! It took me less than 10 minutes to remove the stock HD and install this new HD. Just make sure you have the right size phillips screwdriver before you attempt to remove any of the screws or else you can easily strip them!
Regarding the HD itself, it was formatted by the PS3 and restored my backup without any problems. With my backup restored, I still had over 400 GBs of free space! Amazon did a great job packaging the HD. It came inside a sealed anti-static bag supported inside a small box by styrofoam packaging material. The small box was then placed into a larger box surrounded by air-filled plastic packaging bags.
Great price. Great packaging. Perfect if you're considering upgrading your PS3 HD!
Customer Review: Replacement for 80gb PS3 Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this hard drive as a replacement for my 80 GB Playstation 3. I had read some negative reviews about the drive not being compatible with the playstation 3 and causing games to "pause" at certain times. I went ahead and purchased the drive, because there were more people that had nothing but good things to say about it.
I received the package very quickly! The whole replacement process went pretty quick, the only thing that really took any time was the backing up and restoring of information. I tested the drive as soon as it was installed, and I played a number of games to see if the hard drive would cause the system to pause. It never occurred, and it has been working perfectly since I purchased it!
I would definitely recommend this hard drive to anyone looking for an upgrade. Especially for their PS3. I am definitely happy with my larger hard drive. :)
Customer Review: For my PS3. Summary: 5 Stars
I got the 500 GB Western Digital for my PS3, and it's been almost year since I got it. It was very easy to install. Unlike, the Seagate Momentus that couldn't be recongnize. I found out it had to be formated in fat32 in order to be read, but I was having a difficult time getting it formated. I took it to the local computer technicians, and they told me it couldn't be done because the memory was too big. Whatever!
I just stuck this Western Digital hardrive in, and my PS3 recongnized it no problem, and asked me if it could format my hardrive to fat32.
That's why I recommend this brand.
I did get the 500 GB hardrive, but looking back at it, I should have gone the full Terabyte for just a few bucks more, but I didn't want to risk getting another hardrive that might not work on my PS3. Oh wells. I still got enough room to spare for now.
Customer Review: Dead drive Summary: 2 Stars
I ordered this drive, and went through the painful install process on my Macbook Pro (Intel Core Duo). The drive was DOA. But of course, I assumed that I had done something wrong, so I went through the trouble-shooting process, which, if you're thorough, involves uninstalling the drive, putting back the original and booting up, then taking the MBP apart and RE-installing the WD drive, just to be sure I didn't have a loose wire or something the first time. After doing this TWICE, I realized that the drive was dead on arrival, and had to return it. Amazon does make it easy to return- for that I give them two stars. I *may* try again to re-order this drive and see what happens, but I'll have to schedule about 3 hours for the process, just in case. Ridiculous. If I can find a similar drive from someone else, I'll probably order that, instead.
