Customer Review: Best upgrade I've ever had! (Unibody MacBook)
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the new MacBook when it first arrived, usually I'll wait for the first generation to pass for any bugs to work out but with the solid construction and the death of an older laptop, I jumped in. I opted to max the ram (4gb at the time) but go for the basic (160gb) hard drive. I've upgraded many components on varying machines but was able to do the manual, physical swap in a couple of minutes. I got an Acomadata Tango external enclosure, popped this drive in, used Apple's disk utility to do an exact copy, less than two hours to transfer the 130gb I had stuffed on the old drive, chose this as the start up drive, popped open the macbook unplugged the old one and put this one in it's place. It's a really nice feeling to see 335 GB available at the bottom of each Finder window that pops up. In addition, I've got a back up (albeit a mere 160gb one) drive that's bootable. For $90 bucks and two hours, that's a lot of real estate. I wish more decisions were as simple and had as much bang for the buck as this one. Highly recommended! Now if I could just get the 2nd gen MacBook Pro screen replaced for less than $100 . . .

Customer Review: Very Pleased
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this drive as a birthday present for my son as the original drive that came with the notebook crashed and burned in less than 6 months. The drive is now in a Pavillion dv7 series HP notebook. I watched the video from Western Digital on how to change the drives out. It took me about 15 minutes to switch the drives - I was having trouble with the screws on the notebook, nothing to do with the drive itself. It was very easy to install and I'm no computer repair expert. I am impressed with this drive as it runs quietly, just as advertised, and is much faster than the original HP drive. I have used Western Digital drives for years in my desktop computers. I had to use the warranty on one drive a while back and WD replaced the drive, no questions asked. If you're looking for a quality drive that is moderately priced with a great warranty, this is the drive for you. I plan to put another WD 500GB drive in the secondary bay soon. I believe you will be just as impressed as I am with this drive for it's smooth, quiet running and ease of installation and set up. It works right out of the box. WD ROCKS!!!!!

Customer Review: Western Digital = great drives!
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this to stick in my new MacBook Pro. I have had every brand of drive and every drive fails at some point. Since switching to WD drives about 2 years ago I have not seen a failure. I'm sure that they will all die at some point which is why I have 3 copies of my data at all times. This drive runs cool and relatively quiet. It is not as silent as the Toshiba OEM drive that came in the MBP but it is barely noticeable and stock drives in Mac portables are notoriously unreliable. Since the 500 GB upgrade from Apple would have been $150 I don't have any problem doing my own upgrade and even throwing away the stock drive.

+++++++ 2/28/10 UPDATE: After about 2 months the drive developed a high-pitched whine and started having directory corruption issues which could not be repaired using Disk Warrior. I guess I shouldn't have written the review as it seems to have jinxed my record with WD. It appears their RMA process is simple but I don't agree with having to pay the shipping to them for a drive that died just outside the Amazon return window.

Customer Review: Great And Easy Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this drive for my Toshiba Satellite L505 series laptop after filling up the 320 GB one that came with it. I also got a 4gb stick of RAM. All of this was under $100 and I gave myself a full day to install both pieces. It took me under an hour to put them into my laptop and it took me almost the rest of the time to install windows 7. I only had to remove a handful of screws and plugging in the new components and I was done. It is quiet, doesn't get hot at all, and runs smoothly with no problems. I would recommend this hard drive to everyone. (It came in 2 days with super saver shipping)

PS. If your old hard drive is still working fine I would recommend putting it into an external enclosure like this one... Acomdata Tango USB 2.0/eSATA 2.5-Inch SATA Hard Drive Enclosure TNGXXXUSE-RED (Red)
That is what i did and it creates a very nice portable external hard drive for cheap (it does not come with an eSATA cable)

Customer Review: Great product at a very good price!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this HD to use as an external storage device to transport my media files for playback on various devices. This is my first purchase of a 2.5" drive. As soon as it arrived, I unwrapped the HD and inserted it into a Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure and plugged it into my computer. Initially, my computer recognized the HD as a "USB Device" but not a storage device and so I couldn't figure out how to access the HD in order to format it so my computer would recognize it as a storage device. So, I did a quick search on Download'.'com and found some freeware that would do the trick. Once I formatted it with the downloaded software, my computer immediately recognized it.

For less than 55 bucks, this drive is a steal. Works perfectly for my needs. If I encounter any problems with this drive, I'll be sure to update this review, but I doubt that'll be the case.
