Ordinarily I swear by WD drives, which is why I'm so disappointed in having this thing conk out on me after just over a year. Beware...if you notice the drive having intermittent issues mounting..SAVE YOUR DATA ELSEWHERE. Consider hard copies(CD or DVD backups) of your pics, movies etc.- anything you can't reproduce. Customer Review: DON'T BUY THIS DRIVE!!

I purchased this drive just over one year ago. It has been kept immobile in a protected location; even powered through high quality surge protector. For no apparent reason, the drive failed, and the data is inaccessible. The manufacturer's warranty is only for one year. Especially with the availability of cheap online storage, purchase of such an unreliable drive is sheer lunacy.Customer Review: criminal

my son battled leukemia for a year and a half. after he passed away in june of 2007 at 6 years of age, my brother purchased this somewhat expensive "my book" at costco. he took it home and loaded all the pictures and videos he had of our son and gave it to us. we then transferred all of our pictures and videos of our deceased child into this "my book" for safe keeping. we would very often open it up to look at his pictures and his 4 year old sister loved to see videos of the brother she no longer had. as you can probably guess, after less than a year, this "my book" crashed and it is all gone. the people selling these worthless things are criminals. Customer Review: Fine as a boot drive for a PPC Mac.

I've been using one of these for about a year as my main boot drive for my Dual G4 MDD Mac. (I've been too lazy to clear off one of my internal volumes for that purpose!)
Warning: The Premium Edition may be the only My Book model that can be used to boot a PPC Mac. The Essential Edition, the Home Edition and the Studio Edition can't, even if they have the necessary FireWire connection.

We have used this product for several years. Have only had a problem with the USB cable connection getting loose. Drive itself is fine. Others I have bought recently have falen in price by 1/2!
