Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital Caviar Blue 640 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 3.5 Inch, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM SATA II WD6400AAKSCustomer Review: Got what I needed, expected, and it fulfills my needs! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a high quality/performance demand and I always research before purchasing. This drive is EASY to install (screw screw plug plug done) and works as advertised. I've had it for about a month now and for the format (Sata II), size and especially the price, you simply cannot go wrong with this purchase.
A definite "buyers choice"!
PS: Remember, this is OEM so you will need to obtain a power cord and data cable. I already had a few, they came with the motherboard, so no let downs for me. Be prepared... get yours in advance!
Customer Review: What A Pain Summary: 2 Stars
I should have read the prior reviews more closely. Yup, no cable, CD program, instructions, just nothing but drive. You better know BIOS and computers well or you'll wind up with less hair by pulling it out. At least I had mounting screws in my garage. With my luck the darn thing will be a faulty drive I suppose. Don't expect any help from Amazon besides returns. Amazon just ships not explains. At least my friend told me were in the setup you have to go to turn on drive 1 port. GGGGGRRRRRRRRR. If you need help, go to the Western Digital web site.
Customer Review: Great drive! Nice price for performance! Summary: 5 Stars
I use this drive as a multimedia drive for my iTunes purchases (music, HD TV shows, etc) and my Media Center recordings. So far, I've had no issues. I constantly move huge files ~4-16GB of information and up, to and from the drive and it runs excellent.
For people who have received bad drives. I suspect it's the fact that some drives are not being packaged safely, thus causing them to thrash around in the box during transit. I've personally never received a bad drive yet. So far, my drives have been packed pretty good.
Customer Review: WD Caviar Blue 640GB OEM Drive Summary: 3 Stars
The drive is pretty fast and allows for allot of storage room. Amazon needs to learn how to pack a hard drive for shipment! The hard drive arrived in a box with a static bag around it and no protective padding at all!!! My drive is warrented until 2012 from WD and it is already making noise upon spin up. So it looks like I am going to have to ship it back to WD for replacement. I would not purchase this item from Amazon again not because of the drive; but because of the horrible packaging the drive was shipped in.
Customer Review: This drive does what it should Summary: 5 Stars
I have always had a grudge against WD. My first computer had a WD drive that dies 2 months after the 1 year warranty and they refused to even offer a discount for a new one. Well, about 2 years ago I tried them for an "enterprise version" hard drive with a 5 year warranty. It has handled my music server just fine. This drive is for a backing up the system and so far so good. It does what it should and without much noise. If both keep working beyond their warranty dates I will be very happy with WD.
