Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital 320 GB Passport 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard DriveCustomer Review: great when it works Summary: 4 Stars
I love these external drives, they are extremely useful for transferring files and backup. However, I also have an 80 GB drive that just failed, so I don't think they're terribly dependable. Still, for temporary storage or for frequent backups, it can't be beat because of the size, speed, and convenience.
Just for the record, I think that my other drive that "failed" will eventually be ok. However it's going to take a bunch of time on a support line with WD or Ontrack, which is Western Digital's "preferred" vendor for data recovery (they have a dedicated page for western digital customers). I've used Ontrack's products before, and they really are the masters of data recovery.
Customer Review: Reliable so far Summary: 5 Stars
My only concern with a device this small is its reliability and that it continued to hold the data that you're backing up on it. I've been using the drive for over a week and have not had any issues with it. It mounts easily to the desktop and holds about 300GB of data from the advertised 350GB. Its lightweight and small which is a requirement as I use the drive for traveling.
The only issue that I would comment negetivly about this device is that the copy speeds are less than amazing for USB2.0. Nothing that would prevent me from recommending the drive, just don't expect to be in a hurry if you have 1000GB of files to copy over. Overall a great product from Western Digital.
Customer Review: I'm sure it's great if your laptop supports it Summary: 2 Stars
I have an Apple PowerBook 15" 1.67mHz which I bought this drive to compliment, since I use it to do some basic DJ'ing and want as few wires as possible when on the road. Unfortunately, the WD requires 1000mA to spin up according to the WD support site. It would be nice if there was some notation as to this necessity on the box so I could have saved myself 2 trips to the local retailer I bought this from thinking I got a couple bad drives. I don't want to have to worry about plugging it in - sort of defeats the purpose of the portability. Too bad, I really wanted it to work.
Customer Review: Outstanding Summary: 5 Stars
Customer Review: Works great, fast and tons of space Summary: 5 Stars
This USB Hard Drive was exactly what I was looking for. Good Price, Nice Size, Tons of Space and very fast (if you have USB 2.0)
Once you format your USB Hard drive, you will get 298GB availbale for you to work with.
By the way, just keep in mind that if you use large files (bigger than 2 GB) you should reformat the disk using NTFS because the disk comes formatted with FAT32.
Finally, this USB Hard Disk comes with its own software but to be honest, I didnt have a chance to install it or review it so I have no clue what it does.
