Customer Review: Review from a graphic design student
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm a student at a small university working to get my BFA in graphic design. One of our iMac labs has one of these at each of them. I knew that it would be a great tool to have at home to use on my personal projects. I have been very happy with the results. I use it with Photoshop CS3 and it does very well. It allows you to set how sensitive your touch to the pad is; thus allowing how the brush tool will respond. I don't use the short cuts at all, but I did try--they just don't do a thing for me. Actually, when i need to work into those corners, my hand may have to rest there and can lead to some unwanted clicks. I have run into a problem (I'm not sure who's to blame) when using the tablet with Photoshop: Sometimes it will not recognize the touches on the tablet or will only draw in straight lines. I usually fix this by actually using my mouse to draw a stroke, then switch back to the pen. A few times I had to reboot Photoshop. But other then those minor problems, this product is great. I really recommend those are going into digital illustration and graphic design to get one. This size works perfect. I don't see a need for amateur photographers to own one if all you're doing is cleaning up some blemishes. If you feel you need one, go with a smaller tablet (I would suggest the Bamboo line that Wacom has).

Customer Review: Can't go wront
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the next to best tablet recommended to me by fellow digital artists. By losing six square inches (compared to the 6x9) you're not missing much. As I do not have a widescreen monitor this tablet works out great for me. It has never failed on me, and is light and easy to take with me where ever I go.

The inclusion of the mouse seems a bit silly as I have a wireless mouse already, but if you have a cabled mouse it may be very useful to you. I hardly ever use mine. The pen comes with multiple tips to give you options of "paper feel". I don't know how else to describe it. While I have not changed my tip since purchasing this tablet, I have experimented with the different tips and they feel nice. Almost like drawing on actual paper.

One minor complaint is the cable seems to get chewed up a bit at the base where it connects to the tablet. It has an option of either going in to a slot on the back or to the side of the tablet but does not stay in either slot and if you're like me and take this thing everywhere with you, you might be a little worried that the cable will eventually break or a least expose its wire.

Love this tablet though, and it's a $100 cheaper than getting the next size up which only offers an additional six square inches. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Customer Review: The BEST
Summary: 5 Stars

I used to use an old Graphire 4 x 5 for many years in middle and high school. Late in college, I decided to finally pony up the cash and buy the best - an Intuos!! And after using it ... I could never go back to a Graphire.

A Graphire is fine if you are only doing coloring work or photo retouching. If you do any digital painting AT ALL, you should get the Intuos. Why? With the Graphire, you can't really get precise lines easily - you can do so, but it is a slow process that will waste a LOT of your time. With the Graphire, you also get that annoying feeling of lines not being precise due to both the lack of sensitivity with the tablet and the small area you have to work with.

Enter the Intuos. First, the combined sensitivity with the tablet drivers create a remarkably fluid experience that feels like writing with a pencil far more than the Graphire ever could. You can actually INK with this thing and have it feel like a natural part of your workflow, unlike with the Graphire where you have to fight the technology to make it work. The Intuos just flows naturally with the way you work.

In all, grab an Intuos if you are at all serious about digital painting or texturing. But if you're serious, you already know this. ;)

Wacom Intuos3 6 x 8-Inch Pen Tablet
This is my first pen tablet. I wanted to get my son and I the best I could afford and this didn't disappoint. The fact that professionals use this very tablet and it's reputation in the graphics industry helped sell me on it. I have used it and I am very impressed. It takes a bit of getting used to because it is so sensitive. You can tweak it down a bit if you want but I left it default because I wanted it to be sensitive when I do get used to it.
The software included, Photoshop Elements and Corel Basic(or whatever) are pretty good pieces of software. The average guy can do anything he wants with this. I also tried it out in CS4 and it is superb. My son actually prefers Elements.
I spent a little time playing with the writing recognition. This took a few hours for me since my writing is so bad. But after you get all the kinks worked out you can go into Microsoft word and write by hand. This good for me since I can only peck when I type. My son types about 150 words a minute so he didn't need it. :)
All in all, this is a fine piece of technology. Couldn't be more satisfied.

Customer Review: Made in China.
Summary: 4 Stars

Graphics tablets, if they work at all, will save your wrists and make many programs much more functional; I do not think that this Wacom should receive 100+ 5-star reviews simply for being a tablet. To be sure, it is a good tablet and I have been pleased, with a couple of caveats.

The build quality is only mediocre. The wireless mouse started acting up after about 4 mos. and would not register clicks. It is not very durable. More annoying, the entire balance of the tablet is determined by the placement of four little rubber strips that are glued to the underside -- that glue, something akin to mucilage -- will eventually weaken and then the little rubber pads will tend to slide out of their slots. When this happens, the tablet is unbalanced and it starts "giving" and squeaking. They have to be constantly realigned and not only is this annoying but eventually loosens the overall structural integrity of the tablet. This might seem like a relatively minor gripe, but a tablet as expensive as this should not suffer from anything of the sort.

Should still buy this tablet? Probably. But Wacom shouldn't cheap out on such a critical component.
