Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Wacom Intuos3 6 x 8-Inch Pen TabletCustomer Review: love it Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product for a gift to myself this past Christmas, and I absolutely love it. I do online drawing and had to use a mouse which made drawing fine details almost impossible. This tablet has given me the precision that my drawings desperately needed. I am pleased that it comes with replacement nibs, though I had to order more of the felt tip nibs (comes with 1, and 5 plastic, and 1 spring) which I prefer to the hard plastic ones that tend to feel "slippery" when drawing. I love that you can program the "tilt" and "pressure" sensitivity of the pen when drawing, makes a huge difference. Probably the only drawback that I feel the pen to have is that the click buttons seem to be right where I place my fingers on the pen and it causes accidental activation. It tends to get annoying to constantly have the submenus pop up in the middle of drawing.
I still haven't figured out how to use all the features just yet, seeing as I have no formal training on how to use tablets and the photoshop programs, but, I am learning online through several turotial sites that are available. Truth be told if I could have afforded the larger one, I would have purchased that, my hand tends to cramp working in a smaller area, but, I still would recommend this tablet as the "perfect" in-between tablet for artists. Wouldn't trade it for the world. One of the best purchases I have made all year!. :D
It also comes with good programs that I know I will get alot of use out of. Spent the whole first day playing with them and all the while I kept saying, wow, that's really neat! You won't be dissappointed.
Customer Review: Excellent Product Summary: 5 Stars
I was a bit skeptical about buying this at first. I've always wanted to try out one of these, but never really had a solid excuse for buying one.
At my new job I've been increasingly doing more graphics work, and between that and my own dabblings in graphic design and photography, I decided to take the plunge and invest in one of these things. I don't regret it in the least.
I will say that it took some time to get used to using a pen instead of a mouse. But, you soon get used to it. I've been taking my tablet with me to work and using it at home as well, and now I prefer using the pen.
The tablet is completely customizable. I've found that the 6x8 drawing area is a little too big for me for normal browsing. But, it's easy to set your own boundaries for the drawing area. I've probably got mind configured to a 4x5 drawing area right now. Though, it's always nice to have the larger area for cleaner strokes when drawing.
I was trying to decide between the Wacom Intuos and the Aiptek HyperPen. The reason I went with the Wacom is because, 1) for every good review of the HyperPen, there were 10 bad reviews, 2) the HyperPen has half the pressure sensitivity of the Intuos, and 3) the Wacom pen doesn't require a battery in order to draw, the HyperPen does.
If cost is your selling point, then get what you can afford. But, if you're wanting the best quality tablet, I'd suggest that you spend the extra money and get this Wacom. If mine happened to break or get stolen, I would definitely buy another one without hesitation.
Customer Review: Awesome Product Summary: 5 Stars
Five stars are applicable. This is a very good product.
I work with creative suite and also CAD and free hand drawing. I found the Wacom tablet to be indespesible for getting creative ideas out on to whatever application medium I happen to be working with. The drivers are stable and give a range of options for customizing the usability in each application (screen to movement ratio, button clicking vs touch).
The buttoms are fully customizable and are as easy as using the keyboard when using doing straightforward work.
Rest easy also that a few different nibs come with the set so that you can figure out what the best feel is on the drawing surface for the task at hand.
The mouse is a nice feature that you will probably find collecting dust. It works pretty well but is not something I'd want to use for everyday tasks - it's good to have around even if not used.
I was a little concerned with how the tablet was going to function with my dual screen setup in a 64 bit environment. It worked great and I many times find myself using my pen instead of a mouse for everyday computer work.
The 6 x 8 size is great for a home office or hobbyist creative work. I've done professional layouts from start to finish on my tablet. I would suggest going with this size if it's your first tablet or if desktop space is minimal.
As far as input devices go - this is a very handy product and if I wear mine out, I'll gladly replace it with another.
Customer Review: A MUST for Photographic restoration & repair Summary: 5 Stars
I do photographic restoration and repair as a hobby, but once I started using the Wacom tablet 6x8 along with Photoshop CS3, the outcome of my restoration results graduated to professinal quality work! I highly recommend this tablet for anyone who works with photographs, either as a hobby or as a vocation. When I removed the tablet from its box, I was suprised as to the quality of the unit --- very slick, well-designed and of superior construction.
The 6x8 size is very adequate and easily adaptable to my desktop; I would not recommend a larger size.
The Express Keys which are controlled by one's non-dominant hand are a great time-saver. I set the Keys to common keystroke commands, and while my right hand with the stylus is doing the drawing on the pad, my left hand toggles quickly between tools and commands. When working in Photoshop now, I rarely need to use my keyboard. I also bought the airbrush as an accessory and would not think of being without it. Although it cost an additional $100, it is worth every dollar! As for the mouse that comes with the Tablet -- ignore it.
I hit a few vague spots in the User's manual but eventually found help in the forums on the website. Installation is a breeze!
I also bought a DVD called Photoshop Secrets: Wacom Tablets and Photoshop CS3 by authors Colin Smith and Weston Maggio. I highly recommend spending the money for this very informative item. It saved me lots of "learning time."
Customer Review: Is a 6x8 the perfect all around tablet? Summary: 5 Stars
So in all honesty if money were no object I would be reviewing a Wacom Cintiq 21x right now. After seeing a video of someone drawing on one I HAD to have it for doing my illustrations but alas I was short on funds for the full fledged digital drawing experience and decided that a good way to tide me over would be to order a new Wacom Intuos3 tablet. Next stop on the mental choo-choo train was exactly what size tablet should I get? If you are stuck with this same dilemma and short on funds to boot, I highly recommend the 6x8. For awhile I was under the impression that only a 9x12 would do and came very close to ordering one, but now that I've had some time with my 6x8 I think it was money well saved. Yes, the 9x12 would be roomier for longer drawing arcs (and may still be in my future)but not only is the 6x8 almost half the price but it fits nicely on my desktop right in front of my keyboard. All of my fears that the drawing surface would be too small are more than quelled. I've worked with it almost everyday since receiving it a week or so ago and have no complaints. If you are new to a drawing tablet in general make sure you spend plenty of time tweaking the pen sensitivity, buttons, etc to match your drawing style. The pressure sensitivity is amazing and Wacom really does make an awesome product and I am extremely happy with my purchase. Well that's my two cents and I hope some of you out there had the same questions I did. Now if only I could get my hands on a Cintiq...
