Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Wacom Intuos3 4 x 6-Inch Wide Format Pen Tablet (PTZ431W)Customer Review: Well worth it... Summary: 4 Stars
I work in publishing and production, so I use the tablet for a lot of design and branding. But, I'm also something of a recreational artist, dabbling in things like comic art and caricatures.
I had been thinking about buying a Wacom Tablet for a while. After browsing the reviews before purchasing the 4x6 Intuos tablet, I realized that the majority of the complaints were regarding shipment or poor costumer service on the part of Amazon or Wacom.
I've had mine for about a month now and it's great. The size is perfect for a laptop in that you can pick it up and tuck it into your case if need be, but it's large enough to make it really easy to use. I don't use the mouse too much, but the pen is fantastic. To say it reacts the same as a pen or pencil on paper would be a lie, but it's as close as I could expect a digital counterpart to be. It's accurate and after, some getting used to, can be manipulated to do some pretty impressive things. In fact, the feel of it is so comfortable, I've been using the pen in leu of the touch pad on my laptop.
I already had a brand new Adobe Master Suite, so I didn't NEED the software package, though it had some pretty neat stuff in it.
My only complaint is that the sensor pad on the tablet is a little loose, so on occasion, when I pick up my hand, the corner of the sensor pad will come up with it. But, it's a relatively easy fix. Other than that, it's a great device.
Customer Review: Big upgrade from Graphire4 Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a Graphire4 4x5 tablet first thinking it would be enough for me... It was ok, but then I got a chance to play with an Intuos3 tablet and decided to return it.
Intuos3 gives you a much nicer feeling when you're drawing, just as if you were on paper, not plastic. Resolution is much higher, I'm getting very accurate results. Of course, using a tablet takes getting used to and might not be for everybody.
The pen is very comfortable to hold and comes with a bunch of replacement tips, including a softer-than-normal and a harder-than-normal tips (1 each).
The mouse is actually quite usable on this tablet as opposed to graphire4.
Long USB cord makes it possible to take the tablet off the table and onto your lap.
Overall, a fantastic tool for anybody who needs a better way to control their drawing/photo retouching.
For those, who say it is rather small - true, but the next one up is $100 more expensive. It gets the job done and works great for wide screen monitors without sacrificing horizontal resolution. I guess, for people who paint a much bigger tablet is in order, but this one should be quite enough for photo manipulations.
I only wish Wacom included some kind of handwriting recognition software for free with it, though they offer 20% discount on EverNote products (check out ritePen - it is amazing) as well as other product discounts
Customer Review: Excellent Tablet for the amateur ! Mouse is Junk ****UPDATED Feb 1-2011**** Summary: 3 Stars
I bought the Intuos 3 4X6, and at the beginning I had my doubts about the size. I'm more than happy with it, since I use it only for retouching photos, and it works fine for me. I have more control over the functions in my photo editing software. The pressure levels of the pen is a great feature for dodging and burning, cloning undesired junk is much easier. Everything is done with more precision once you get used to working with it (I can say the learning curve is pretty steep). Serious designers and illustrators recommend much bigger tablets, but I recommend this one for the amateur photographer.
******UPDATE FEB 01, 2011******
I should have posted this update sooner: It is simple, the mouse is just garbage. It died after just a little over a year. It became erratic and irresponsive to the point it is useless. There is no way to replace it because the mouse for new model Intuos is not compatible with my tablet (this is non-sense), so I'm left with the tablet and the Pen, which are working perfectly, fortunately. I had to buy another regular mouse.
I downgraded my rating by two stars because I find ridiculous that Wacom makes their own products incompatible, and to make things worse, they discontinue these products you just can't replace with newer models. It doesn't make sense and It just pisses me off.
Customer Review: I waffled for too long - the Intuos is sweet Summary: 5 Stars
I kept waffling between a larger Bamboo and this 4 x 6 inch Intuos for about four months. I've had the Graphire for several years now and I'm assuming the Bamboo is pretty similar. The problem I had with the Graphire was using it to navigate menus and over onto my second screen. It felt clunky and I just got used to putting it down and picking up my wired mouse (not the Wacom mouse. Does anyone even use that?) With the Intuos it feels very natural to just keep using the pen. There's no interruption in my workflow anymore, which has been a tremendous benefit.
Another benefit is that I can use it in Illustrator now. The Graphire for some reason never felt right in that program. Photoshop is where i use it most and the Intuos over the Graphire (and I'm assuming the Bamboo)is incredibly more precise that you just can't go wrong if you use it daily. If you have been waffling like me then stop, buy the Intuos and increase your productivity/workflow/output quality.
One minor quibble though, I came in one morning and the plastic toggle button was missing. I'm thinking the cleaning guy was trying to figure out what it was, but I found it one the floor. It snapped back on but I'm not sure if it will stay.

Customer Review: Great Product but Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first tablet and I cant believe that I used to do photoshop with a mouse!! It does take some getting used to, but once you burn into your head that the pad area is the equivilant as the screen dimensions then all is well. I purchased mine at best buy for a little less than here for $199 and part of why I purchased it is that on the box it says under the software included "Includes full editions of creative software:" and the listed software is photoshop elements 6.0 , Corel painter essentials 4.0 , Nik Color efex pro 3.0 and some wacom brushes. Now the problem I have with this statement is, and a big reason I bought it, that it says full editions. The Nik software is NOT a full edition and only includeds six filters that are really pretty worthless because if you know photoshop well it can do those things on its own. So if your excited about getting a full version of the Nik color efex 3.0 (the newest version) just figure on buying it for the tablet itself. The Corel paint software seems pretty cool but I havent really played with it yet. If your using this professionally you probably wont care about the software anyway because you will have everything already. I do want to state again that the hardware is great!!
