The drive works great. And installation was as simple as plugin the power cord, plugin the usb cable to the mac. My mac asked me if I wanted to use it as a Backup drive, answered "yes" and I was done.
One thing I noticed, if I unplug the usb cable, and then plug it back in, the drive does not always "reconnect" to my laptop. All I need to do is unplug the power from the drive, wait 10 seconds, and plug the power back in.

I already had an older 500 gb Western Digital My Book drive and it worked flawlessly. I bought this to consolidate all my iTunes media files and copied everything to it easily. Unfortunately now less than 1 week later EVERY TIME I come back to the computer I find the WD "off" and an error message telling to properly eject the device next time before disconnecting.
I emailed WD customer service and have not had this resolved.

I have never used an external hard drive before, but this was as simple as could be. I just took it out of the box and attached it to my laptop's USB port. It works automatically without a thought from me. I was so pleased with price, size and simplicity that my son ordered one the next day. The only drawback is that it does make noise. Installation is really simple and easy: you just connect it to the Mac and start the time-machine.
It did backup my machine for a year and a half, but I have never needed to restore it.
Well, Mac died and I have bought a new one.
40 minutes after connecting the My Book - all my stuff were up and running.
As it should....
Great product and priced to be consumed.

I'm impressed. When my LaCie gave up the ghost at too young an age, I shopped around for a good value based on Amazon customer ratings. This thing just sits there and does its job, quietly and unobtrusively. Hopefully it will have a much longer lifespan than the LaCie, but at least for now it is living a much quieter life. So easy to set up (plug it in) that it was almost scary.
