I've enjoyed use of several IA5879's for about a year -- in the family room and bedrooms. All of them have worked well and there is no interference. You don't want to make the mistake of placing a handset on the wrong base -- I found this out and paired each set so we couldn't get it wrong.
Some of the reviews I've read might be about early units with problems. I guess you need to match choice to need, and that means research. I researched heavily before getting the 5879 -- there's not a lot of competition in the 2 line wireless market.
The users in my home each reports their phone works well. The wired phones replaced by the Vtechs did not have line status lights, so everyone has learned to listen before use in our home and all has been well. No one has thrown something because they were rudely interrupted.
If someone is using the handset in a given room, the line indicator lights up on the base, so another person knows to use the free line as a speakerphone. My wife and I do this all the time. Yeah, I'm line 2 and she's on the speaker. And her calls are 10 times longer than mine.
The contact directory, caller ID and speed dials suit each user just fine. For biz use, I suppose more numbers would be nice. For home use, these are very good, no need to break the bank. No one has reported interference when two handsets are in simultaneous use.
The speaker phone base is terrific. Sound is clear (handset sound is good, too. Most of my calls are on the speakerphone and none of the people I call has complained about the sound.
Another potential benefit with the Vtech is to use one of the line as a regular landline, and then hook line 2 to a Voip service for the long distance and foreign calls.
Did anyone mention that the phone is pretty? Visitors have commented. Good phone hunting!
