Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of VTech CS5111 1-Handset Cordless Phone, Silver/Black

Customer Review: simple cordless phone review 5 stars
Summary: 5 Stars

The Vtech CS5111 Cordless Phone is exactly what I was looking for, an affordable cordless phone that would hold a charge and had minimal extra stuff. It does not have an answering machine or a speaker phone, and I already had those in other phones. I needed a simple wall mount cordless phone with caller ID for the kitchen. The handset is light and comfortable, good looking in its silver and black finish. It can be used as a desk phone or a wall phone. It has the normal attachment feature to hook it to a wall mount jack. My jack was the wrong style so I converted a jack with the RCA TP251 Wall Phone Mount I found here at Amazon. It sits securely in the wall set and does not fall out.

It has a couple of features I need with my weak eyes and hearing, the screen is large and lights up (could be brighter though), the big buttons all light up, and it has a volume control on the handset. Also has a "find the phone" feature so I can hunt it down. "Honey, If I could remember where I left it last it would not be lost".

The phone has a redial button. So far the phone has clear reception and its signal does not interfere with my wireless computer signal like the old phone did. If you have voice-mail service with the phone company, it has a flashing light to alert you to a message. Mine has a sticker that it is "energy star compliant".
The caller ID stores the last 45 calls. It has features I have not used such as a directory you can set up of 20 names/numbers, and 9 speed-dial numbers, and an indicator alerting you of a waiting voicemail. It is caller ID/call waiting compatible. It stores the information of the last 45 callers. You can change the ringtones, and the menu allows you to change the language from English to Spanish or French. The rechargable battery is GE-TL26563VTCS5111. I have never had a phone from this company before, but so far so good. Shop around this site on the price, the prices vary wildly depending on the listing page, do a search on "vtech 5.8 phone" and you will see that some seller pages at Amazon are more expensive or more affordable than what other sell the same phone for, also check the shipping price. If I have problems, I will post an update here.

Customer Review: one package Phone - Call me!
Summary: 5 Stars

I picked this up for the local German "down and out" derelict hostel where I worked for a few months as a desk clerk/toilet cleaner/cook. I didn't want to spend much money so this is the choice I had. Most of the people using it had bad breath, bad oral hygiene and scruffy beards full of lice so I didn't want to give them a Phone with "caviar" if you know what I mean.

It's a basic, one package Phone.

Colour me your colour, baby
Colour me your car
Colour me your colour, darling

Come up off your colour chart

Videodrome (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]

Customer Review: Good value for the occasional user.
Summary: 3 Stars

I use my home phone about half as much as my mobile (phone). I recently integrated this home phone into a VOIP system. I've owned two Panasonic cordless phones before this and replaced one because it failed.

I purchased this from a national chain store and it included an additional handset; I put in another room as its home. I bought this because it:

Had no additional answering machine (I don't like all in one devices, I would rather pick and choose).
Had a backlit large caller id display.
Had a message waiting indicator so my VOIP system could turn on the message waiting light.
Was a 5.8 Ghz handset.
Seemed to be a competitive value on price, critical factors considered.

Results:

It is lightweight (I like this aspect) with adequate battery life.
The sound quality is exactly what you would expect for a POT (Plain old telephone).
It has a small footprint so you don't have to allocate a lot of table-top real estate for it.
It will not interfere with your home wireless computer network.
Newer, cheaper baby monitors will absolutely wreck your ability to take calls on this phone. (I suspect it is because they transmit on similar frequencies.)
Considering the above, if I lived in an apartment complex I suspect I wouldn't be 'ok' with using this phone because it doesn't have any privacy features like DECT or 'frequency hopping' built in.

Summary:

If you are looking for a phone that is unobtrusive, functional, and inexpensive that doesn't have a lot of complicated and time-consuming features then this may fit your lifestyle.

Like others' comments, it may not have the most responsive buttons and the durability may be unknown. I've had mine for a year, use it lightly and haven't had any problems.

Not recommended for families with heavy users or people who tend to mash the buttons very hard. Not recommended for use in an apartment complex.

Customer Review: Perfect with Magic Jack!
Summary: 5 Stars

This phone is perfect for me. I use magic jack as my home phone and forward calls to my cell when I'm out. Now I pay $10/month for both!

Anyway, back to the V-tech. Great sound, great caller ID. Totally comfortable to talk on for a long time. I can keep it on my shoulder just fine too. The directory and caller ID functions work great once you read the manual and figure it out; not the most obvious set of functions. The volume and clarity are great though; no static.

With magic jack the phone's caller ID works perfectly, you just have to make sure to plug the magic jack into a SELF POWERED usb hub (with a power cord) rather than straight into your computer, then the caller ID kicks in. Also you can use your computer speakers and microphone as the speaker-phone. (Also make sure the phone is set to touch tone or it won't dial out with magic jack.)

I like the fact that it doesn't pick up a call when I take it off the cradle. I am always looking at the caller ID before I answer and I don't want to be afraid to touch my phone while squinting down at it.

I also like the option of adding new handsets later.

Customer Review: low cost, simple, and works with magic jack!
Summary: 5 Stars

Not long after I moved, my phone I used with my magicjack died. (The phone was 10 years old!) So when we had a chance, we bought a cheap phone from a local pharmacy, and of course, it either didn't work, or didn't work with magicjack. So naturally, I turned to Amazon. This phone was already cheaper and a better name than the one I had found in the store. I thought I might as well try it. Within two days it was here (thank you Amazon Prime!) and I hooked it up. Eureka! Magicjack and this phone work perfectly together.

The phone itself and the instructions are very easy to use and to understand. The screen and buttons are easy to see. The sound is great. It is also very durable and kitty tested, thanks to my cat Lucky. He is continuously jumping on my desk to get to the windowsill, and knocking both the phone and the cradle down onto the floor. He hasn't caused any problems with either the phone or the cradle, just had to pick them up and dust them off. This isn't my main phone line, so I can't go into battery life. Overall it's a great phone, and I haven't had any problems with it.
