Customer Review: Not for the vision impaired

I have the AT&T 5.8GHz cordless phone, model E60148, which I love. Unfortunately, one of my cats ate through the power cord to the base set and I couldn't find a replacement so I thought I'd try this new Dect 6 model. It is very similar to my old one but with a huge negative difference...the display. It is very dark and hard to read when in the non-use mode. But, even when the phone rings, the display is still very dark and hard to read. I am so spoiled by the other model because it is bright and the font size large. The Dect 6 model has a much smaller font size. I am not what I'd consider vision impaired but I sure feel that way when trying to read the display on this new phone. Why didn't I buy the old model? Cost. It is a lot more expensive with more handsets than I currently need. Now I'm thinking perhaps the cost difference is worth it! So, while I love the features on this new phone, I can't live with the diplay issues so the phone is going back. Anyone with vision or low light issues, I'd choose another model such as the E60148.Customer Review: Unbeatable clarity of sound

As our two year old dropped our old 5.8 Ghz cordless one too many times, I had to find a replacement. I tried another model of the Uniden 5.8 Ghz since the one we had is no longer available. I was very disappointed that there was consistent static. I then tried the DECT 6.0 newer technology in the AT&T and was very pleased. Pure clean sound with no static or other annoying sounds. Haven't really challenged it on distance yet. I agree w/one other review that you can't adjust the handset volume loud enough. Not sure why AT&T limited it so much. Still not used to the functions yet as they're not quite as intuitive as some others I've had. I debated between this and a Uniden model (can you tell I like Uniden?) but went with this one for price. I'm thinking that all DECT 6.0 phones are probably about the same with great sound regardless of manufacturer. This is a good phone and giving 4 stars rather than 5 due to inability to turn handset volume high enough and fact that menus/functions aren't quite as intuitive as I'd like.Customer Review: Lacking in features and feel

I'm switching from a Uniden 5.8 that I have used for a few years. As the batteries were dying in the Uniden, I thought it time to switch. Boy was that a mistake (remind me next time to just get some new batteries).
The phone features good reception and range, but the positives stop there.
In the hand, the feel is cheap and the features are pathetic. The list of things one would expect as a general baseline that this unit is missing is quite large. For example, you cannot associate specific ring tones with specific names in the directory. Nor can you change the display on any of the handsets (i.e. to display the time or to name them). All of the ring tones that come with the unit are harsh and the "musical" ones make nails on a chalkboard sound pleasant. The display itself is nearly useless; while it has a large enough LCD, no good information is displayed. The buttons feel fragile and the handsets feel like toys.
But the backlight is blue, so the unit has that going for it.

This new cordless is quite a step up from the previous generation. Our old one suffered from annoying interference with the baby monitor, with appliances, and who-knows-what. This one has shown no sign of any interference. Also, our old home wiring is pretty ratty. I had already run a new wire from the phone company connecting block to my DSL (data) splitter. With the 3 phones (& I can add more if needed), I have bypassed my old wiring altogether. The intercom feature is great -- when the phone is answered in the basement, we no longer have to hike to the second floor to find the intended recipient -- just intercom & transfer. The speed-dial function is the easiest to use that I have seen. You just scroll thru numbers you've called (or those that have called you if you subscribe to caller ID), and redial. Or, you can put those numbers into your phone book with their name. And, the ability to punch in the number you are dialing, then dial the whole thing (cell-phone style) is a nice feature as well.Customer Review: nice features too bad it didn't work well

This phone has some nice features like adding new numbers to the directory. Fortunately deleting the numbers for returning the phones worked well. My 5.8 Uniden wireless and Uniden corded base with wireless may not have had as many features but provided what was needed in the phone, simple clear communication. Static and line noise on AT&T phone was more noticeable, the volume was maxed out on the phone and under the best conditions was just adequate. With any kind of outside noise it was impossible to hear. Back in the "olden days" of electronic communications there was a feature called full duplex. It meant that while one person was talking you could hear the other person if they were talking at the same time. With this phone if one person talks the line goes "quiet" and on more then one occasion each of us have asked if the other person was still there. This phone would have been given one star but it is somewhat workable and has some nice features. Thanks for Amazons great return policy.
