Customer Review: Hum on the phone; Customer Support not so hot
Summary: 2 Stars

As another purchaser said and retracted, I also had a hum on the phone when BOTH lines (copper and VOIP) were plugged into the phone. When either line was plugged into the phone individually, it sounded fine. The 993 has a great feature set for the most part. My biggest complaint other than the hum is that the volume control does not seem to control the headset jack.

I called AT&T customer service about the humming and, after, many questions from a script, I was told to change the channel on my router as that was probably interfering with my CORDED telephone. The change had no effect which is what I expected but I wanted to give the "tech support" folks a chance.

I would not recommend this phone to users having VOIP/copper wanting 2-line service. I will be returning it to Amazon and look for a Panasonic locally.

Customer Review: Almost perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

Great 2 line phone for use in my home office. A couple of minor annoyances, though.

First the good:

+ Separate volume controls for each ringer
+ Able to control which line is auto-selected
+ Speakerphone very clear
+ Headset jack
+ plenty of speed-dial buttons
+ excellent sound quality.

Now the minor annoyances:

- Caller ID display does not hyphenate numbers, you will see 202-5551212
- If a number is in the directory, caller ID does NOT display the directory entry (why??!!)
- The menu navigation is odd, and I often hit the wrong button when trying to use the menus.
- Cannot disable beeping tone made when you press buttons (annoying at first, but later you won't even notice them.)

All that said, I am very happy with this phone.

Customer Review: Perfect 2 line phone!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 2 line phones were dying and I needed to update them fast, but didn't want to spend a ton of money. I looked at the reviews on Amazon for this At&t 993 and decided to take a chance. Well, it arrived today and I fell in love with it immediately. I didn't bother to put in a 9v battery yet and even so, all the functions work on a/c power alone! I think it would lose the caller I.D. information if it were unplugged, so I'll splurge on a 9 volt battery. My old Sprint phone would die if the batteries were removed. The first thing I did was to program speed dial for each of my voice mails. What a simple task! The phone voice quality is fine, and the buttons are large which will make it easy for someone with less than perfect vision to dial a number. I'm very pleased and will be buying more soon.

Customer Review: OMG - Stay away, as far as possible
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a small business and simply needed two simple two line phones. Lotsa of features are not that important to me, but the thing has to work.
Pulled them out of the box - phone 1, on line 2 the "9" button sticks making it useless for the second line. second phone line 2 doesn't work at all, and the "2,5,8" buttons do not work. I guess that wwould be ok if I never dialed anybody with a 2,5 or 8. I troubleshooted this to death. switching lines, different cables etc., even tried at the neighbors..... I really dont have time to be ATTs quality assurance.

Bottom line these are junk. Returning them immediately.
And for you ATT, based on your pathetic customer support, I cant wait until Verizon supports the Iphone so I can completely sever any business with you.

Customer Review: Good phone, but one perplexing issue.
Summary: 3 Stars

I was looking for a solid speakerphone with no answering device or unnecessary frills. This phone fits the bill. It is of substantial weight, feels sturdy, and the feature set is easy to use. I will probably buy more of them as I expand my office.

There is one issue which I can't figure out. Right now there is only one line hooked up. When the phone rings, the red Line 1 light flashes. However, the "New Call" light for Line 2 flashes and the Caller ID information is displayed as coming in on BOTH lines. AT&T's customer support line is automated only. I tried to contact AT&T by e-mail. However, four days later and still no response.

I cannot give the phone 5 stars because of this problem and AT&T's failure to timely respond to my e-mail.
