Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of VideoSecu Universal LCD/DLP Projector Vaulted Ceiling Mount Bracket Black with 25.6" extension pole PJ2B 1C9Customer Review: Works well Summary: 4 Stars
This is being used to hang an Optoma HD20. Before we moved, we used a Peerless Universal (Low Profile) (PRS UNV-S). Now that we're on an 8' ceiling, we don't need the low-profile mount anymore, so we got something significantly cheaper. It was a very good decision.
This is about as easy to install and as adjustable as the Peerless. I did not have to do anything special to mount the projector except reverse one of the mount-arms; no big deal. And I liked the fact that it can be mounted such that the light access panel can be removed without taking the mount off; couldn't do that with the Peerless.
In the end, it takes a little thought to get everything mounted properly. There are no "step 1, step 2, etc." directions, just a single diagram that shows where things connect. Depending on whether or not you need to use the extension arm, you will have extra parts left over; that's OK.
While you do have 3 independent axes around which to adjust the position of the projector, you have to be smart about it. The ceiling mount only swings a little over 90 degrees along 1 axis; it's meant to compensate for sloped ceilings. The next part swings along a the same axis, maybe 15-30 degrees (I didn't use the extension). To that, you hang the piece that you attach to the projector; that part can pivot 15-30 degrees on a 2nd axis. If you need to twist the projector (3rd axis), you have to play with the part that attaches to the projector.
In my experience, it's not worth it to try and get all the bolts super-tight. No matter what you do, there's always a little "give" somewhere. So I got the projector pointed pretty close to what I needed and tightened everything pretty snugly. Then I just pushed the projector around (a millimeter here or there) until it ended up where I wanted it. It stays put.
Finally, I think it's funny that they have such huge screws to mount everything to the ceiling when the tabs that hold the projector are so small. (...something about the weakest link in a chain.) The projector would break before the mount, in any case.
Description of VideoSecu Universal LCD/DLP Projector Vaulted Ceiling Mount Bracket Black with 25.6" extension pole PJ2B 1C9Features and Benefits The VideoSecu projector ceiling mount is attractive, strong and light weight. Durable black finish comes with the latest design in safety, flexibility and value for many of today's most popular LCD projectors. No-Slip adjustment system allows you to quickly and easily fine tune your projector adjustments in order to achieve a perfectly square image. Once your projector is adjusted, it will stay true for as long as you require it to. The unique arm designed arms allows the safe installation for expensive projectors, and it offers adjustment for width and depth, giving maximum versatility for a wide variety of projectors. The mounting system comes with everything you need to assemble a complete mount in a single box. By using the included telescoping ceiling mask, this mount extends from the ceiling 16.9" to 25.6". How can I determine if this mount will fit my projector? Projectors may have 3, 4 or 5 threaded holes for ceiling mount. First make sure that the projector does not exceed the 44lb weight limit. Next, find out the maximal diagonal of the holes. It should not be over 12.5". In other words, if the distance of any 2 out of the 3, 4 or 5 holes is not more than 12.5", then the mount should fit fine. If your projector has holes more than 12.5" apart, you need extra extender (sold separately in our Amazon store ASIN: B0036828KS) which can cover an area up to 17 inch in diameter.
