Customer Review: Don't expect to use everything in the box!

I'm a home improvement guy. I enjoy projects and having to build things and put them together. I also have no fear of modifying something to suit my particular application if necessary.
I ordered this mount in conjunction with an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 705 HD, (replacing an aging InFocus X1) and selected this model mostly because of its price, and that it was specifically listed as being designed to attach to a vaulted ceiling.
Upon opening the box and sorting and counting all the parts, I was a bit overwhelmed in my first impression. The "instructions" are more of a schematic (1 folded page of an exploded view of the 'long' and 'short' versions of the mount with a parts list and quantities.) To begin, the parts provided and listed were far greater than those shown in the exploded view diagram. You really just have to just start figuring out which screws and washers will actually be needed and will fit before tightening anything down.
The first stumbling block was; yes, this will work great on a vaulted ceiling out of the box, IF you want to mount your projector on the up/downward slope, not a side slope which is how my previous projector was attached in my living room.
To attach it in this fashion, (because of the very top "tilting" section points to the front/rear) you have to disassemble and reassemble the projector mount end and rotate it 90 degrees. Not a big deal, but worthy of note here. The side effect of this was that since my Epson has a 3 hole mount, I could not use the manufacturers 3 hole position for the extending legs. (NOTE: If you look at the pictures in this listing, you will see 3 leg and a 4 leg configuration images. The 3 leg configuration in the 5th image MUST be Photoshopped, as it doesn't show the 3rd leg actually bolted to the "third leg" middle hole. Instead it shows the empty hole, but 4 bolts being used...)
I had to use 3 legs installed into holes 1, 2 and 4 of four hole pattern, since mine had to be rotated for my desired ceiling angle. It fit, it felt secure, and if it was something that you could see from ground level, it would have bothered me. However unless you are on a ladder looking down on the projector from above, no one would ever know I had to do this non-standard little work around.
Once the projector end was taken apart and rigged up for my side slope ceiling angle, the rest was no big deal and it was installed, tightened up and projecting in just a 15-20 minutes.
It does have lots of nice adjusters once the main post is mounted from the ceiling and the projector is hung. One thing it does that my older X1 mount didn't have is that once the main post section is attached to the ceiling, and the projector has its bracket section attached, there is a "hook and post" cradle system that allows you to just "free hang" the projector and use both hands to tighten the 4 main adjustment screws. My old X1 mount required me to have to support the projector with one hand and slip the main hanging bolt with the other, while keeping both holes on the upper and lower brackets lined up. It was a real PITA when hanging or taking the projector down for use in a different location. With this mount you can remove all 4 of the main adjustment screws and the projector will still hang from the mount until you lift it away.
Would I recommend it? Sure. If you want a sturdy cost effective over engineered extended projector mount for a vaulted ceiling and you are not intimidated by getting a bag of bolts and washers to fiddle with, then this mount will fit your bill (as it did mine) perfectly for the price.
