Customer Review: Fake Camera for a Real feeling of security

After my sister's house was burglarized, I got her three of these fake security cameras and I ordered 2 for myself. They look just like the real ones on the house next door to me. A friend of my sister's asked me if it had a red LED (to look "more real.") I said No and that's why I chose them. I see VERY few red operating lights on home security cameras these days. Besides, you don't want the criminals seeing you up on a ladder replacing the batteries on your fake cameras, do you? I also purchased a sign from a local sign shop reading, "WARNING! Property under video surveillance." The cherry on top of our charade...
The only downside is the small black wire coming out the back. There is nowhere to put the other end. You could tuck it under the base when you install the camera, but I thought that looked pretty amateur, so I just cut the little wire off at the rear of the camera. This is really just a psychological ploy, anyway. If the average burglar sees mounted cameras and warning stickers on your windows, his first, easiest course is to find an easier house to break into. Sure, a determined thief will break in anyway, but this is a great, first line of defense against the more common lower level, crime-of-opportunity type thieves.
If you can't afford a full-on, real video monitoring system, this is a great alternative. I see home security system cameras on MANY homes and you will blend right in with these. It's the cheapest insurance you will ever get!
