Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Verbatim 96166 4.7 GB up to 16x LightScribe Gold Recordable Disc DVD-R (50-Disc Spindle)Customer Review: Lightscribe software makes product hard to use. Summary: 3 Stars
The image on the disc is gray and flat, hard to get good contrast. Most of the problems with these discs is the software needed to burn the image. HP does not support the software they created so you have to go to the blogs to get answers. Most of the blogs are about how the software does not work no matter what people try. I tried every thing on the blogs ( except changing the bios, not something I would ever do to get software to work ) and went through 20 discs before giving up. Most of the time you get an eight of an inch recorded before it quits. A coworker asked if I had tried Macintosh software to burn the discs ( I have both PC and Mac computers ). I went on line and found Mac software and set it up and the first disc worked with out a problem. The problem then was the poor image quality. After experimenting I found that you have to convert the image to Black and White to get reasonable contrast. I now have a solution for burning discs but am wondering if other Lightscribe discs give a better image. I don't have an answer to that but my guess from what I read in the blogs is probably not. If all you have is a PC I would advise you to read the blogs before you purchase Lightscribe discs.
