Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Verbatim 95310 8.5GB 6x Double Layer DVD+R DL Discs (20pk Spindle)Customer Review: It works very well Summary: 4 Stars
I have purchased this product in Feb 2009. On Mac OS X.4.11 with an external Lacie DVD/CD burner and Toast Titanium 7 by Roxio in 8 days I have burnt 24 successful DVDs. I have burnt these as data disks although some contain animation and movie data files that i have tested and they do play back fine. I have not burnt a movie DVD to be used in a "Home DVD Player" and do not have a DVD player to test it in.
In Toast, I left the setting for the speed at best and the LaCie drives are able to read the disc's capapbility and burn accordingly.
The only thing about this line that I find inconvenience is that I have not found it in a larger number of discs per spindle with comparable prices. I use 10-30 DVDs per month for backup and archive and prefer to have a larger spindle for economic as well as less waste reasons.
I have ordered 2 more spindles and will update on those.
One thing that is important for all users to note that if you are burning a DVD or CD at the highest speed then you should not use the system in that period of time as you increase the chances of corruption for your data stream on the bus many folds. It does not matter how fast is the system or how much RAM and space you have or number of processors.
Also make sure that if available the Buffer Undrerun Prevention is used. Normally it is in the Recorder Settings or Preferences of the burning software.
Customer Review: The only Dual Layer media to use! Summary: 5 Stars
Not all DVD media is created equal. There are many trusted names out there that outsource where they can have their media made cheaply and their product suffers for it. (A good general rule of thumb, stay away from ANY media made from Taiwan and Hong Kong.) And while some cheap media may work for you, it's a gamble that often loses. It is generally agreed among those in the know, Verbatim is one of the most reliable DVD media's around.
After I toyed with cheaper media - and lost some irretrievable memories set down on inferior brands (now coasters), a good friend steered me to Verbatim. I tried it and I have never looked back.
The secret behind the recording quality of Verbatim's DVD media? -- Verbatim's parent company, Mitsubishi Chemical. Mitsubishi is one of the largest chemical companies in the world, and they take the manufacturing of Verbatim DVD-R media very seriously.
Verbatim is also the leader in the production of DVD+R Dual Layer media. No other manufacturer has anything comparable to Verbatim's Dual Layer DVD. Verbatim's Inkjet and Thermal Dual Layer is not only the standard, but really the only viable option in DL media.
Great disc for anyone serious about DVD burning.
Customer Review: The King Is Dead ... Long Live The King Summary: 1 Stars
Thinking of buying Verbatim 2.4X DL discs ?
Fugged' aboutit !!!
Here are my results:
Media Code ID: MKM-001-00
Made in Singapore
Burned Six XBOX-360 ISO's at 2.4X, on 6 different burners:
1,2 - Pioneer DVR-115 and DVR-111
3,4 - Liteon DH20A4P and DH16A3L
5 - NEC ND-3550
6 - OPTIARC AD-7170
The best quality score I got from DiscSpeed v4.11.4.0, was a 53 out of 100; burned w/Pioneer DVR-111.
On the other hand, using Ridata 2.4X DVD+R DL (Media code: RITEK D01), I get an average quality score of 93 out of 100; burned w/Pioneer DVR-111.
In other words ... RIP Verbatim

Just because you don't get a coaster from a burn, doesn't mean you have a QUALITY burn.
Although it might appear that your DVD is working fine, you should perform a Disc Quality Scan of it, to ensure you have an acceptable media.
Always do a Benchmark/Quality Disc test (ie: Nero's DiscSpeed), after a "successful" burn, using a LiteOn or NEC DVD burner as a disc "reader/scanner"; use Google for more info on the subject.
Cheers ...
Customer Review: I just don't know anymore..Saddens me..Where to now? Summary: 3 Stars
I've used verbatim DLs exclusively for the past 3 years..I lived through the horror of the memorex DLs and will never go back. Their customer service is terrible..Their DLs the same
The Verbatims WERE amazing. I honestly think I went 3 years without making a coaster..Using Roxio , Nero, and IMGburn.
Lately though..It seems like about 1 in 15 on average are bad..This is acceptable..but Im looking elsewhere now for something like the amazing days of the old verbatims...Of course you mile may vary...but I can't recall making a coaster during that 3 year period..So what Im experiencing now..makes me wonder is it going to continue to get worse?
I'm trying TDKs right now..Will edit this post after I evaluate them.
Will never go back to memorex..Ive heard sonys are good..not sure..Just what a friend told me.
I have three burners. It isnt the drive(s) that are the problem..Failures have occurred in each of these drives..no pattern except, for me. a pretty consistent 1-15 failure rate.
I Will update after i get through the TDKs
Customer Review: VERBATM DVD+R DL 8.5GB 2.4X 20 pk Spindle Summary: 5 Stars
Best quality dual layers on the market tried several brands such as HP and Memorex and they don't compare to quality. Out of the full 20 pack spindle, no coasters with exception to one; but that was a program error not the disc. Wasted a lot of money buying the other brands and ended up with numerous coasters. I tested out this 20 pack and it is great! I highly recommend eventhough it costs a little more than the other Dual Layers on amazon it is definitely worth it, considering your saving so much purchasing them online than off;its about 2 dollars a disc online. Offline you can pay about 5-7 dollars a disc at general retailers for brands like HP and Memorex....Verbatim is even more than that per a disc. Great trusted brand for all my DVD's that require a dual layer. Enjoyed using this product for the simple fact of no coasters, will be ordering more soon, probably a higher quantity due to the price being low here online. It works at 6X on my computer; this varies depending on the model of your computer/dvd burner. Overall excellent quality highly recommend!
