Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Verbatim 95102 4.7 GB up to 16x Branded Recordable Disc DVD-R (100-Disc Spindle)Customer Review: Media is Excellent - Packaging for Shipping needs improvement Summary: 5 Stars
I have ordered and used two sets of these and have never had a bad one. However Amazon shipping department have gotten a bit sloppy lately with their packaging for shipment.
Seems like they just grab any ole box (mostly too large for the item, throws the item in with a bit of very large bubble wrap and away it goes.
In my opinion, this method of packaging rarely protects the item and most of the time, the item(s) just rattles around inside. My wife and I have ordered a lot of things in the past year and have received the last few packages in this manner.
Back to the DVD-R media. I ordered this plus a couple of CD-R media. Being heavy and rounded the DVD-R came in with a broken outer casing. Luckily it didn't come apart and the media scattered all over the place which could have easily happened.
So come on Amazon! I've given you folks lots of KUDOS for your service and customer satisfaction, however your shipping department needs to be straightend out as they've gotten sloppy lately.
Customer Review: Verbatim DVD-R media: the best media on the market Summary: 5 Stars
These are about the best DVD-R disks on the market. The absolute best used to be made by Kodak and were true archival quality and backed by a 100 year guarantee. However when Kodak stopped making them I looked for a quality replacement and settled on Verbatim. I use these to make high quality back ups of family video as well as hard copies of all of my photos. Even with 3 digital backups on external drives, I just feel better having a physical copy as well.
They also burn excellent copies of DVDs if you want to make back ups of your disks--which I recommend since it is legal to make 'personal use' backups according to fair use law--and I hate losing a a DVD because it got scratched.
Overall DVD-R disks are a very inexpensive and quality data back up solution if you like the peace of mind of having physical copies of your video, photos, or other important files. Verbatim makes quality media, so you can't go wrong with these.
Customer Review: Was Just OK Summary: 3 Stars
The Verbatim blank 100 DVD-R's I purchased was just OK!
I have a DVD Recorder and 2 other DVD players one being a portable dvd player I wanted to record Movies from cable so when i was on the road i could watch some of my cable recorded Movies, the only thing is that once i recorded the Movies to watch on my portable player the Movies kept freezing cracking up like a broken window pane this was only when i played them on my portable dvd player. why i don't know! but when i record Movies using other blank DVD dics such as Staples brand or HP Brand or Memorex brand or Sony I had no problems at all playing these disc on my portable dvd player. so I have gone back to HP Brand DVD-R
Don't get me wrong My Recorded Movies recorded on Vabetim played ok on my Home DVD player but did not play well on my portable player. sometimes you just have to shop around. but as i said you get what you pay for.
Customer Review: very few coasters Summary: 5 Stars
out of 100 i think i had 1 coaster(failed dvd), and im half way through my second spindle with no coasters. my dvd player reads them all the way to the edge of the disc and other dvd players with little dvd-r support seem to like these. anybody who burns many dvds knows that vebatim consistently has the best quality. if your new to the dvd backup game, dont skimp on quality! and for this price, you get both quality and cheapness.
EDIT: on my 3rd spindle and no new coasters since that first one...
EDIT: 4th spindle and no more coasters!! I think that first coaster was user error. Ive been have troubles with my burner latley, no fault of the discs. It was the same problem with failed DVD but at that time I didn't know what to do. Replacing the disc solved the problem but trying again same disc would have probably solved the problem.
Customer Review: Used To Be A Quality Product, But ... Summary: 1 Stars
I've used Verbatim blank DVD's for the past few years because they were always so reliable, never a "coaster" in the bunch. [That's in contrast to Sony and Memorex, where each attempted burn was always chancy.] However, my last stack of Verbatim's started out OK, with no problens, then 2/3 of the way down the stack I started to get write errors when burning. I dropped the recording speed from 16x to 12x and that helped some but even then a few were unusable. Thinking my DVD recorder was getting dirty, I invested in a cleaning disk but that offered only a marginal improvement. I am now reluctant to spend money on a product that has gone from ultra-reliable to iffy. If anyone has located a media manufacturer whose DVD reliablity is superior, please add a note to this set of reviews and let us know who it is. Thanks.
