Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Venta #VS 207 Digital Sonic HumidifierCustomer Review: Silent but DEADLY!! Summary: 2 StarsI purchased this humidifier because of some the reviews i read last year on how good the product was.First off this thing is very well made. Its design is sleek and the digital display is very high quality and easy to use.The tank is also well made and its nice to be able to see the water level through the tank. The tank is very easy to fill and will sit upside on its own without wobbling around but you cannot just fill this in an ordinary bathroom sink. You must use your bathtub or your kitchen sink as long as you have a high faucet on it.Its not that heavy (too me) when full and it has a nice handle on it too carry around.
After filling the tank and inserting the strange filter cartridge, this thing is QUIET!VERY QUIET! You cant even hear this thing running on high.It really puts out some major moisture into the air too but I wouldnt use humidifier for no more than a medium sized room.
Heres the bad part!!The filter cartridges wear out really fast and i wouldnt buy no more than 1 at a time.I purchased 2 of these cartridges and within just a couple of months, the new cartridge i had on standby had frozen up into a ball inside which made it useless for water to pass through it and the humidifier would always say it was running empty because the filter cartridge was plugged up.Inside each cartridge appears to be some small white pellets that i guess are suppose to filter the water. These things cake up easily apparently just from the humidity in the room so i wouldnt buy no more than 1 at a time.Leaving a new one sitting around the house in the box makes them cake up.
Heres the DANGEROUS PART!!This humidifier is a fire hazard i believe not from being designed poorly but from how much white dust this things puts into the air.Within about a month you will notice white dust forming on your curtains, chairs, furniture etc etc. This dust comes from the mist that the humidifier puts out.NOW READ THIS--- One night while i was sleeping i awoke to a strange smell in the air.It smelled as if something was burning or something was on fire.I looked around the room and checked the whole house and found nothing but the smell still lingered in my bedroom. After checking around the house i noticed my box fan that i keep in my bedroom was acting up and started to get slower and slower.I went over to the fan and shut it off.The fan is where the smell was coming from. After looking the fan over i noticed that inside the fan motor the white dust from the humidifier had caked up all over the electrical components thus causing the burning smell!!If i hadnt been home when this was happening i may not have a house anymore because of this white dust from the humidifier clogging up my fan motor. This fan was only 6 months old and only run during the night.
conclusion----the humidifier is well made and is very quiet and easy too use.The filter cartridges are poorly designed and dont last that long. Also dont leave an extra cartridge sitting around your house either or it will cake up and be useless.I unplugged my humidifier and threw it in the trash after what happened to my box fan.The humidifier still worked well and wasnt that old but i dont need a fire hazard around my house.I purchased a regular evaporative humidifier with the large filters which works very well but it isnt as quiet as the ultrasonic mist humidifier. My new humidifier may not be as quiet as the Venta Ultrasonic but its not gonna spray a white dust into the air or start a fire either!!This Venta humidifier was suppose to be one of the top of the line ultrasonics humidifiers. If this is top of the line,i would hate to see how much dust some of the cheaper ultrasonic humidifiers put into the air!I was only gonna give 1 star for this thing almost starting a fire but i thought it did deserve 2 stars for at least its appearance and quality.
Customer Review: Decent humidifer but pain to clean and refill Summary: 3 StarsWe have had this humidifier for two years now.
Pros:
It's lasted us for two years
It says that it has warm mist but it's not really that warm - more like room temperature mist but at least, that's better than cold mist
Easy to use
Cons:
I wish that it would just shut off instead of blinking when the water is done
It's a pain to fill up - you have to flip it over and unscrew the cap. The only way to fill it is through the bathtub
It's also a pain to clean - we find ourselves cleaning it at least once a week now
It's not exactly cheap either
Customer Review: Great until it breaks Summary: 1 StarsI had the humidifier for two years and it worked great until now when the mist volume is greatly reduced. Tried new filter and cleaned the oscillator and noticed that the oscillator disc coating is peeling away and needs to be replaced. The problem is that Venta Sonic is based in Germany and outsources the technical and warranty support to A&B distribution. I called and spoke to different reps and they were both useless. Venta Sonic does not have any replacement parts except for the filter and tank. If anything else breaks or needs replacement you are out of luck. Stay away from this company.
Customer Review: One of the best out there...but with two problems Summary: 3 StarsOver the past few years I've tried every high-end humidifier on the market, and in short...this one is the best of the worst. The fact is there simply are no humidifiers in production that don't have some of the typical humidifier problems...this one just has fewer of them.
White dust...the death knoll for sensitive electronic equipment, and while Venta says there should be "little" white dust, I have to disagree. I have three of these units and when they're running every piece of black plastic in my house is covered with white dust. Plasma and LCD TVs often have a small fan inside them for suck in outside air to cool components and then blow it back out a different opening. I know from expensive experience that white dust can ruin these items.
Forget the humidity percentage gauge on these units...they aren't even close to accurate. I recommend a good hydrometer if you need to know your accurate humidity levels.
On the good side, these are the easiest to maintain and clean of any humidifiers I've tried. They MUST be cleaned weekly when in use, but it's only a 5-minute job.
Customer Review: Does a very good job...and super quiet Summary: 4 StarsI bought my VS207 refurbished (elsewhere) and was quite impressed. I'd read the reviews about the humidistat being inaccurate, but especially for the refub price I decided to try it. I'm glad I did!
Yes, the humidity reading is off, but I also bought a Western Caliber III hunmidity/temp meter (about $15) to compare it to (then use later in my crawlspace where dampness is an issue) and found that the humidifier's humidity reading is off by 10%....whether the current humidity is low or high, it remains off by the same amount, therefore the guage is perfectly usable to me since I just add 10 to whatever it says. (Plus, what really matters is that you can set it to whatever is comfortable, regardless of what the number says, and it will maintain that level.)
Actually, I liked it so much that I just bought another unit since we have another baby on the way, and that unit's humidity display is dead-on accurate, so it seems like it's probably just a lack of proper factory calibration that makes it vary so much from unit to unit.
Vapor output is very good, and so quiet that I have to look for the vapor to believe it is actually running. I use it at the medium setting so the level in the room stays more constant and there is less cycling on/off. (High seems to raise it too quickly and causes it to cycle on/off more, but also, I have it in a fairly small bedroom.)
The "warm" setting is almost a joke (barely noticable if you feel the vapor coming out), but I did try it one evening and it did seem like the moister didn't make the room feel as cool as it would have otherwise. I'll probably rarely use the warm setting except maybe on very chilly nights.
I love the large tank. I don't have a problem with the handle position, but I can see how some people might....but if it's too awkward/heavy for you, just fill it less so it is lighter and easier to flip back over.
