Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of V-Moda Vibe Earbuds (Gunmetal Black)

Customer Review: Great headphones - if they lasted
Summary: 3 Stars

These headphones sounded really good and were comfortable while they lasted. After about a year of occasional use the right earbud started cutting in and out and eventually stopped working. Not sure if the short is in the earbud itself or if it's inside the cable close to the connector which is pretty easy to crimp accidentally due to its design (looks like the design has been updated now though). I do like the inclusion of the additional inserts though.

Customer Review: Great sound, won't last
Summary: 3 Stars

I love the sound and comfort from these earphones. I travel daily on the NYC subways and these work great to block out noise while providing great sound. The problem arise with their construction. The first pair I had were the 1st generation Vibes with the straight plug. the wire was worn down by the sharp aluminum and it eventually cut. This new design was supposed to fix that problem, and it did. But there was another problem. The little aluminum part where the 2 wires join into the 1 main wire eventually caused one of the wires to also cut. So same problem, but from another part of the earphones. I do love the sound and design but when my friends $30 skullcandies last longer than 2 of my $100 Vibes, I call it quits.

Customer Review: Great Ear Buds for "Rock" Music
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoy rock music. Most earbuds simply can NOT produce deep bass with the solid impact that rock music demands. But, the V-Moda earbuds can produce deep bass that is solid and well defined. The new edition of "Abbey Road" creates the illusion that the Beatles are in the room with you...the bass guitar and bass drum are full bodied and three dimensional. And, if you use EQ to boost the bass even further, the V-Moda earbuds simply get louder, they do not break up and distort the music.

The reproduction of voices is simply "average" when compared with other earbuds in the $30 to $80 price range...good, but not the absolute best. I suspect the best models from Bose and Shure might be better bets if the quality of voice reproduction is your top priority...but most of the "best" models sell for two or three times the price of the V-Moda earbuds.

Folks complain when their earbuds develop problems after six months or so of daily use. Let's be realistic. Earbuds weigh less than 15 grams. We stuff them in our pockets. We sit on them. We wind the cord around our MP3 players. We fall asleep with them in our ears and get tangled up in the cords. Yup, they are likely to malfunction after six months or eight months of that sort of use and abuse. The alternative is to buy "heavy duty" headphones that weigh as much as ten pairs of V-Moda earbuds. Heavy duty earphones can last for years...they just won't fit in your jean's pocket and are not practical for jogging or working out.

Customer Review: A simple and fast review

I got these bad boys from Amazon about 6 months ago. Let me first say that I absolutely love these earbuds. I spent a lot of time doing research and trying out different brands and types. One type that stands out are the Shure Se210 earbuds. I really didn't like them and I think they cost over 100$. These are much better in terms of sound and cost less. The sound quality of the Shure earbuds wasn't that great especially when it came to bass (and I know how to wear them). Anyway, the one issue that came up in all my research was that a large majority were saying that the Vibe earbuds do not last. I went against my better judgment and purchased them anyway. I had read that V-moda had fixed the issues by changing the shape of the jack (the part that you plug into the ipod or whatever your using). The earbuds that i received had the new jack seen in the picture. I broke them in (like you have to do with most higher end headphones) by just playin music through them for 24 hrs. Sound quality was amazing. I love the deep bass. Goes good with all my music (which is everything but country). Now here is the problem. Just last week the left earbud quit on me. I was always careful with them and by no means was this my fault. Sucks really bad because i really like these. So the bottom line is that these earbuds WILL quit on you. Don't take the chance unless you don't mind buying a few pairs. Like i said, they sound great. I would rate them 5 stars for sure if they were still working like they should. Now I have to bend the stupid cord and use a rubber band to keep it in place if I want to hear Marilyn Manson or Infected Mushroom in both ears. I'm goin with the Monster Turbine next and I'll give that a review later on. Feel free to ask me any questions. Let me also add that anyone who thinks that their standard ipod headphones are better than any pair costing more than 20$ are completely stupid and have absolutely no reason to be writing a review on headphones. Anything is better then those standard ipod earbuds. Period. hope this was helpful...

Customer Review: All foam, no beer...
Summary: 1 Stars

I really wanted to fall in love w/ these headphones, but after several months of use, I can not endorse them.

~~~Pros~~~
Exterior - Looks sexy! Love the metal and I personally got a kick out of the buds feeling cold when you first put them in... but maybe that's just me, cause a lot of reviewers have listed that as a con.
~~~Cons~~~
Sound - As others have mentioned, the Vibes are very low end/bass focused, w/ only mediocre mid & high tone reproduction. I mostly listen to Rock & Roll w/ some Hip Hop thrown in, and I felt the sound was so unbalanced towards the low end that it made certain songs sound muffled.

Quality - The two wires that lead to each headphone have become very rigid over time, to the point that I can fold, then pinch the wire, and it holds the angel!!! The rigid wire makes it very easy to pop the buds out of your ear, if you touch the wire. I have also noticed a faint crackling sound emerging in the left ear bud.

Customer Support - You need to hold onto your receipt, or they won't even bother w/ you.

~~~Conclusion~~~
So they look great, and that's about it. All foam, no beer...
