Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of V-MODA Vibe In-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphone (Gunmetal Black)Customer Review: i picked this after extensive research Summary: 4 Stars
There are an overwhelming number of earbuds available on the market for a plethora of prices. For me, it was important that I had a pair that would stand up over time and deliver good sound for around 50 dollars.
Positives: I would say that the range of sound is vastly better than what is offered by the standard earbuds which came with my ipod touch. They also are made of metal, so there is no worrying factor of sitting on them and crushing them. The chord is substantial, though not nearly as substantial as many other headphones' might be, and I have no problem with the fit of the earbuds in my ears. If I did, I would simply use one of the other sizes which come with the pair. Finally, they look nice, which is still important to me whenever I'm going to be spending money on anything.
Negatives: The chord makes a funny noise which is quite audible when it is free to move around and jostle against it's surroundings, though that problem seemed to lessen as I got used to it and stopped playing with it. Really if it if going from your ears to your pocket on a walk, it really isn't existent unless you force it to move around in an unnatural way. The music playing quality is excellent, though at the very low base levels, there was some thumping noise which really didn't subtract from the overall sound quality.
The one thing which bothered me the most when I received the pair, was that it seemed that in other colors, the chord was made out of a different material, some type of fabric coating, perhaps. However, on the Gunmetal Black colored buds, you have a chord that seems just like every other chord in it's composing properties.
Customer Review: Not as Advertised Summary: 1 Stars
As another review points out, the manufacturer of these earbuds has changed and the quality has dropped significantly.
I purchased another pair of these earbuds about two years ago and through my own neglect and abuse, eventually wore out one of the internal wires so that one of the buds only plays intermittently. I had been so happy with their performance, especially their low-end range and their noise isolation for my frequent air travel, that I ordered another pair without hesitation.
Much to my surprise, the pair that arrived has much different audio quality -- the frequency response in the low end is not very good at all, which is very disappointing given that the low-end is one of the primary selling characteristics for the earbuds. Since I still have my old pair of earbuds, I actually have the opportunity to do side-by-side testing to enumerate the differences, which include details such as a new lower-quality 1/8" earphone jack, cheap hard plastic gaskets where the wire meets the earbud, new metal enclosures, different fabric braiding around the wires and a number of other changes. Audibly, songs such as Kanye West's "Heartless" used to have clear solid bass throughout the entire song, and on the newer earbuds the bass is barely perceptible.
Ethically I am horrified by the apparent bait-and-switch that has gone on here. Even with that issue aside, the quality of these earbuds is so dramatically diminished that they no are no longer worth the high price tag that was previously justified. Shoppers should ignore all previous high praise for these earbuds and consider other options.
Customer Review: Great Listening Headphones Summary: 4 Stars
These headphones are great headphones. There are 4 types of headphones: earbuds, in ear canal headphones, over ear, and canalbuds. These are canalbuds, comfortable but inside the ear. They have the hi quality of the in ear canals, but do not hurt. These headphones have great bass, but are also just really good.
Pros:
1. They look awesome. I have the red and black ones and they are stunning.
2. They are small, superportable, and not like the huge super clunky Bose headphones. I would not want to be seen in Bose headphones.
3. They cancel some noise, not as well as the Bose ones, but really well.
4. Awesome sound comes from these, from classical to metal and everything in between.
Cons:
1. These headphones are only really great if you're just walking around, in a bus/work, or lounging around the house. But if you want to work out, these are not the type you want as they slip out. If you're not working out, they stay in no matter what your position is, but the sweat makes them slip out.
2. To some people this won't matter, but: the jack is straight, not L shaped, so you can't plug this into your iPod and just wrap it around or it will break, you have to unplug them and wrap the jack around the iPod too. This is annoying. It seems small, but it can really hurt if not taken care of. The headphone part is really durable, but the jack is not. Because the jack sticks out instead of following the body, it makes it easier to break them. This is the only reason these are not 5 star.
Verdict: Great quality, but only get them if you will take care of them.
Customer Review: You won't find better earbuds at this price Summary: 4 Stars
Once I got my first ipod back in 2004 or 2005, the first thing I realized was that the earbuds that came with it sucked. They made the cartiledge in my ears sore after just 10 or 15 minutes of listening, and the sound quality was crappy. So I bought a set of Sony earbuds, which were a marked improvement, but still didn't quite do the trick. They didn't have the bass response, and didn't seem very efficient, as I had to keep them cranked in order to get decent sound. If I cranked them too much, they started distorting really badly. The Sonys cost about half of these V Modas.
So, I've been looking for an upgrade, and did a fair amount of online research before deciding on these.
The other reviews here are pretty accurate. You have to "burn" these earbuds in before they reach their full potential. When I first got them, they sounded kind of tinny, but I had read the reviews, so whenever I'd be listening to my stereo, I'd just leave the earbuds plugged in as well. It didn't take long before the reviews came true. They now sound kick a*s. Plenty of bass at relatively low volume, and a very nice, warm sound stage. They're great for the ipod, but also work nicely on my home stereo or plugged into a PC speaker system.
I listened to the Bose and they didnt' really do it for me. They're more expensive too.
The only complaint I have, which is a small one, is that the cables are too short. The aforementioned Sonys have an extra foot of cable.
Other than this small complaint, you won't find a better set of earbuds in this price range.
Customer Review: Great Earbuds Summary: 4 Stars
I've had these for about 9 months now, but earlier this month they stopped working due to the poor construction of the wiring (basically the wire near the jack started to split). I contacted the v-moda customer service since all v-moda earbuds come with a 1 year warranty, and they were very nice, and sent me a replacement for free (so awesome customer service!). The replacement, which is the currently sold model now, is definitely better designed than the one sold last spring, and the wiring looks a lot sturdier. Despite having a pair that failed me in less than a year, I really love these earbuds as they actually stay in my ear! I have small ears compared to others, and these fit perfectly (each v-moda earbud comes with 3 pairs of clear white and 3 pairs of black fittings, each all different sizes of course). Overall, the look is great (I get a lot of compliments on 'em), they're super comfortable, and in my opinion, sounds awesome. I think these have the right amount of bass and richness that lets me enjoy my music (mostly listen to electronic/trance). And I also love the amount of "isolation" these earbuds have (I usually take the bus to and from campus, and these do a great job of blocking out outside noise). The new models come with black casing instead of the ugly gold one shown in the picture above. The color however isn't really black, but more of a dark hunter green. Also, I love the fact that the wires are the same length as I personally can't stand the uneven lengths that other earbuds have. So, all in all I'd give a solid 4 stars, these are a great buy! :)
